I saw some of the author’s story animations/drawings before it was published and thought it may be interesting and fun. When I finally got around to reading it, Hopeless Necromantic was certainly a treat. Characters to Love to love, love to hate, then hate to understand and appreciate why they’re as they are. Not only are the main cast enjoyable to follow their antics and misadventures, there’s a lot of heart underneath the silliness, to me tackling grief, acceptance, moving on, and facing down...

This book has everything. Action, friendship, romance, magic, clever banter, themes about healing from loss/grief, a talking skeleton who plays the lute, sings like an angel, and who longs for pants that fit his slim skeletal waist. The characters are real and relatable. The writing is clear and witty. The story doesn't take itself too seriously while also dealing really well with some heavy topics. Seriously. This is a fantasy book, but somehow the characters feel more real than most of the modern books out there. It is possible I loved it more than most because I too am a depressed 30 something that feels like my body is 100 most days.
