Beware of the first few chapters if you have a weak stomach or gag reflex because you’ll encounter some maggots and pus. This book jumps right into the plot, takes place in a world that is rotting away, land and people alike due to a curse that has been passed down thru generations of kings, which brings us to the current king-Kael. What an amazing and unique story. I was hooked from the first page. Superb and poetic narrative. FMC is strong yet kind and gentle. I read this in one sitting bc I just couldn’t put it down. Cons: Needs more world building. A map is always a bonus! )

BUT… maybe a little overhyped for me so far. It’s messy in a good way though and has a lot of twists. Right now it’s sitting around a 3–4 star read for me, but I’m trusting the process because I keep seeing people say this duology ruins them in the best way and is one of the best they’ve ever read.
