With my father indisposed, I become Queen of the Southern Isles—and it's the heaviest responsibility of my life. I know the Barbarians will come for the kingdom, and I have to prepare for war.
But I don't have to do it alone . . . because Wrath is with me. My advisor and my protector, he helps me secure the aid of my allies, and helps me remember my strength. And when I become lost in despair, he tells me I can do this. That I'm the only one who can do this.
The God of the Underworld is my silent partner, a powerful ally that no one can see, and it becomes clear there's nothing he won't do for me. He watches my back when I trust no one else to do it. He helps me move pieces across the board against the Barbarians. My mother and brother grow suspicious of my powers, and I grow tired of telling them lies.
Despite being swallowed by misery, as time goes by, it becomes harder not to fall for this man. And he doesn't bother hiding it either. Wears his heart on his sleeve and bares his loyalty like the crest in his armor.
Except there's no way for us to be together . . . ever. He says there's no escape for him in the Underworld, that this is all we'll ever be. That he'll help me win this war and then leave me to find someone I deserve.
But he's the man I want—and I won't stop until I find a way.

I absolutely love this world! I love everything about it, especially the dragons! Shocking I know. Through this book I’ve decided I finally like Hawk, he’s grown and come a long way. The tension over Talon and finding a cure for him is killing me. I mean if that situation isn’t worked out I riot! By riot I mean throw my kindle like a toddler. Then there’s this moment that made my heart race for the safety of one of the dragons. Last but not least of course is Lily and Wrath. Wrath is such a...

I did not realize this wasn’t the first book in the series, but this was still really good. I didn’t feel lost at all. The FMC is temporarily queen while her dad is sick. She’s looking for a cure, managing war and sleeping with the god of the underworld. I love how she is strong, demands respect and is all around badass. I wish I would’ve read the prior books because I would feel more invested.in the characters romance and I would love to know how this all came to be. The voice actors did a...

Empire of Death delivers everything I wanted and more. Penelope Barsetti takes the series to new heights with a story that’s bold, emotional, and full of tension. The heroine’s rise to power is both inspiring and heartbreaking, as she faces impossible choices in a world built on loyalty, love, and betrayal. Her relationship with Wrath remains one of the most captivating in fantasy romance — equal parts fire and fragility. The world-building is richer than ever, the stakes higher, and every...

An absolutely spellbinding tale of power, sacrifice, and forbidden love. This story swept me into a world of war-torn kingdoms and divine intrigue, where a young queen must rise to meet her destiny with the God of the Underworld at her side. The emotional tension between duty and desire is palpable, and Wrath is the kind of brooding, loyal protector who steals your heart with every scene. Their bond, equal parts strategy and soul, is unforgettable. I was hooked from the first page and left...

The Death Deries has been one of my absolute favorites. Both generations with impossible gut wrenching love stories trapped in the dark. The Empire of Death kept me on edge as tensions continue to rise while a storm brews on multiple fronts. Betrayal, deceit, and truths battle for power and my heart aches for both Lily & Wrath. The end of this book has gutted me and left a hallow space in my heart. A miracle to this tragic love will be needed to piece it back together. 💔 )
