Ten years ago, Carrie Morgan fled the mountain town of Woodsmoke, desperate to escape the weight of her family’s mystical legacy. But the mountains have a long memory, and when her grandmother passes away, Carrie is pulled back to the place she tried so hard to forget. Tasked with renovating a crumbling cottage, she intends to make a quick exit before the spring thaw, but the soil itself seems to have other plans, binding her to the land through the ancestral magic that flows through her veins.
As the first winter snow falls, a mysterious stranger named Matthieu arrives, offering his help with the repairs. Despite ominous legends about winter visitors who vanish with the frost, Carrie finds herself drawn into a second-chance romance that feels as dangerous as it is enchanting. Caught between her desire for freedom and the pull of her heritage, she must navigate the delicate balance of love and family obligation.
Perfect for fans of Practical Magic, this atmospheric urban fantasy weaves a spell of nostalgia and longing. Whether you are seeking a touch of light magic or a poignant tale of returning home, this story offers a cozy, evocative escape that lingers long after the final page.

The ending was a bit melodramatic but overall a decent read. Some of the magic in the story seemed a little forced. ) 2 people found this helpful

The title and cover itself gives one a sense of the magical atmosphere written within the book. The author painted a picture of the mountains and town that I could really see. Unfortunately, the book did not contain much magic, rather it contained the handed down remedies of old. The book was written in three different perspectives. I can't say that I liked any of them. The story unfolds slowly as we learn that Carrie has returned to town after staying away for ten years. Her return is to claim...
