Emmaline Bluewater spent years trading the unpredictable world of magic for the comfort of a mundane life in Chicago. As the owner of the bar Toil and Trouble, she has finally found her footing, leaving behind the painful memories of the boy who abandoned her seven years ago. But peace is short-lived when Bastian Truenote, the man who broke her heart, reappears in her shop with a desperate plea and a proposal that threatens to unravel everything she has built.
This delightful paranormal romance weaves a captivating second-chance narrative where childhood sweethearts are forced into an unconventional arranged marriage. As they navigate the complexities of their past, Bastian must contend with a protective dog familiar, a vengeful best friend, and an Emmaline who has shed her wallflower persona for a fierce, independent spirit. The chemistry is undeniable, yet the weight of old secrets and magical contracts makes reconciliation far from easy.
Perfect for fans of cozy, witchy romcoms, this story balances lighthearted banter with the emotional stakes of rekindling a lost flame. Whether you are seeking a seasonal read for the autumn months or simply love a grumpy-sunshine dynamic, this enchanting tale proves that some spells are meant to be broken.

First - why are so many witch moms ... straight up WITCHES? Secondly - I absolutely loved how this story developed, the mix of childhood history with self-discovery as older adults, the banter, the tension, the steam - top notch! The author really wove a beautiful story about having the freedom to choose, how important it is to choose your family (related by blood or otherwise), chase your dreams, and find out who you are on purpose, and find your voice. I absolutely LOVED Emma and Bastian's...

This is a cute second chance romance. I had a hard time liking the hero which made it hard for me to get into the story. )

3.5 ⭐️/5 2.0🌶️/5 This is a magical world where in one moment you can sip a pint of beer at a bar in Chicago and in the next open a portal to step into an archeological dig site in Egypt, or a stuffy society party in New Orleans. Emmaline Bluewater, born into witch high society, grew up always struggling to overcome shyness and please her SUPER verbal, magically abusive crap mother. Witch high society marriages were not about love matches but merging powerful families, and as a child she was...

Well-written, good pacing, and decent characterization. The best part was that although it is a typical fantasy romance with the standard tropes, there are a few minor plot twists that are unexpected. I'm looking forward the second book. There are some definite hints here of the future couples the rest of the series will be following. My money is on Tia and the gentleman she clashed with at the party. )
