The House Witch: A Humorous Romantic Fantasy: The House Witch, Book 1

by Delemhach

About this book

Finlay Ashowan is not your typical hero. As a powerful house witch, his battlefield is the kitchen, and his most potent weapon is a perfectly seasoned stew. When he secures a position as the royal cook for the Kingdom of Daxaria, he hopes for a quiet life of culinary perfection alongside his adorable kitten familiar, Kraken. However, in a castle rife with political machinations and dangerous secrets, anonymity is a luxury he simply cannot afford.

Blending cozy fantasy with high-stakes courtly intrigue, this story offers a refreshing twist on the paranormal romance genre. As Fin’s magical talents are exposed, he finds himself thrust into the heart of imperial drama, protecting the pregnant queen and navigating the icy reception of the royal mage. Between defending the kitchen against arrogant knights and managing a blossoming, will-they-won’t-they romance, Fin quickly learns that serving dinner is the least of his worries.

If you are hunting for a witty, heartwarming tale that balances domestic charm with a dash of mystery, this is your next obsession. With a lovable protagonist, a touch of snark, and a world that feels as warm as a fresh loaf of bread, you will soon see why this series has captured millions of readers.

Surprisingly Good, I Want More

June 24, 2025

I'm absolutely shocked. I've now read several \"cozy\" books, and each has had it's flaws. But it usually revolves around lack of interesting or intense character personalities or stakes that are just too low. They aren't bad, per say, just not great either. I was expecting that with this book, given it's marketing and description. I was delightfully wrong. This was an entertaining read from the very first chapter. Each character is so well written, wonderfully complex, and enjoyable. The...

Fin Ashowan has just arrived at the castle in Daxaria where he has been hired to be the new cook. Fin is an excellent cook but takes control the minute he arrives and puts up the back of the other servants and the knights who like to hang out in the kitchen. He makes it clear that the kitchen is his domain and no one is allowed that he doesn't approve of. Fin is a house witch and he doesn't like others to know that. When someone knows you are a witch, they expect that you will be able to help...

Cozy, cute and Very Creative!

The cozy feeling of this story had all of the aspects of a cozy cottage and bubbly cooking pots. The main character, the kitchen witch was very lovable and witty. The supporting characters were enjoyable and I liked their positive personal achievements brought about by their association with the kitchen witch. Fun and fabulous read! ) One person found this helpful

I discovered the first book in The House Witch series through Amazon’s Prime Reading program. This book charmed me so much that I had to read the rest of the series. Finley Ashowan is a house witch. That is, his brand of magic is effective only in his home, where he feels comfortable. And his magic allows him to keep it cozy and safe. As the royal cook, Fin can cook astonishing meals. He starts out keeping his magic secret. But it won’t stay hidden forever. There is an intriguing noble woman, a...

Great characters, fun plot and yes it was well written

September 10, 2023

I devoured all 3 House Witch books in under a week. They made me laugh and cry and unlike so many books today I had no idea what was going to happen next. They are truly a fun, charming series and I can’t wait until the new book is published. As for the readers who had issues with the usage of them and they when referring to a singular person the only confusion is the reader’s grasp of grammar. In those instances the author was describing someone but didn’t want to state the sex so used them or...
