A spellbinding reimagining of a literary classic, this atmospheric tale breathes new life into the Brontë legacy by infusing it with dark, supernatural stakes. Jane Aire is no ordinary governess; she is a skilled witch armed with protective charms and a deep knowledge of herbology. When she arrives at the brooding Thornfield Hall to serve its reclusive, enigmatic master, Edward Rochester, she quickly realizes that her practical magic is the only thing standing between him and a malevolent, encroaching shadow.
As Jane navigates the halls of her new home, she finds herself drawn to Rochester, whose prickly, alpha-hero exterior hides a man burdened by dangerous secrets. Their evolving connection forms the heart of this paranormal romance, blending Regency-era charm with the high-stakes tension of a magical academy setting. Together, they must dismantle the dark forces threatening their lives, discovering an unlikely found-family amidst the spectral peril that haunts the estate.
If you are hunting for your next obsession, this story offers the perfect escape. It is a hauntingly romantic blend of gothic mystery and authentic witchery that will keep you turning pages well into the night. Prepare to be enchanted by a world where love is the most powerful spell of all.

I obtained this book as one of my Prime First Reads. That says a lot in its own right as I rarely take advantage of First Reads, since so many of them are just not in genres that I like reading. In fact, over the years that I’ve been getting the First Reads offers, I’ve only picked up three books prior to this one. I do have to say that it was also nice that there were actually early reviews on this as they helped me decide to take the plunge this time. Well, it was well worth it. The book was...

Series Info/Source: This is a stand alone book. I got a copy of this on ebook through NetGalley. Thoughts: This is a re-imagining of Jane Eyre with witches and malevolent ghosts. I enjoyed this well enough. Jane is an orphan who teaches at a girls' school known for teaching witchcraft. She gets a request to travel out to Thornfield Hall to deal with a problem there. For the most part I enjoyed Jane and Edward's characters; although I did wish a number of times that Jane had a bit more backbone....

What a fun read! I love the style of writing that though modern, reminds me of regency era books. It was well written and though it technically is fantasy, I’d say it’s more along the lines of supernatural. The mystery of it was so fun to explore. I have to confess, there is a bit of predictability, though I was happily surprised by a few twists I had not seen coming. In no way does that detract from the over all integrity of the story, nor its charm. I love that the main characters are so...

4.5 stars/5 for Salt and Broom by Sharon Lynn Fisher Salt and Broom is described as a witchy retelling of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, but since I haven’t read the original classic, I’ll simply characterize it as a well-paced and atmospheric historical mystery. Healer and herbalist Jane Aire is asked to temporarily leave her teaching position at the school for orphaned girls where she was raised to help wealthy widower, Edward Rochester, identify the cause for mysterious happenings at his...
