Hecate Goodwin has cultivated a life of quiet solitude, tending to her apothecary and foraging the deep woods of Ipswich. As a hedge witch, she thrives in the stillness of her cottage, far removed from the complex hierarchies of coven life. But when her sister demands she host the annual Halloween gathering, Kate’s peaceful world begins to fracture. The pressure of the coven is only the beginning of her troubles, as an unexpected visitor arrives on her doorstep seeking sanctuary.
Matthew Cypher is a man from Kate’s past, a charismatic practitioner of forbidden magic who once deceived her. Despite her lingering resentment, she is bound by her duty to offer him shelter. As they navigate an uneasy truce, their connection deepens into a dangerous, forbidden-love that threatens to consume them both. This atmospheric tale draws on the myth of Hades and Persephone, blending cozy cottagecore vibes with the dark, jagged edges of ancient necromancy.
When Kate unearths a mysterious tome written in her late mother’s hand, she realizes her coven has been harboring lethal secrets for generations. Forced to choose between loyalty and the truth, Kate must embrace her stolen power to survive the coming autumn. Perfect for fans of paranormal romance, this story is a spellbinding journey of found-family, buried history, and the sacrifices we make for those we love.

I really enjoyed this book—it’s the perfect way to kick off the fall and Halloween season! The story weaves together just the right mix of romance, family, hidden secrets, and a wonderfully hateable villain. I especially loved the recipes included at the end—I can’t wait to try them out! )

This has all the bright and dark moments of Practical Magic and the Witches of Eastwick and a deep undercurrent of Family first as the theme. Mothers protecting their daughters and a man who will sacrifice everything he is for the woman he loves. As a standalone, I know the plot couldn't breathe as much as it could have, and the characters couldn't be as fleshed out.so it suffered a bit as a whole. But the right balance is there, and there are enough vibes to be satisfying. ) 2 people found...

All the autumn vibes, little substance I wanted so much to like this book, but the writing almost feels too reliant on heavy-handed, cozy descriptions. It bogs down the plot a bit. I feel like the level of descriptions of mundane items with no plot relevance is distracting. While there is a lot described, the world building is lacking and left me with more questions than answers. As far as the romance aspect of this, there isn't a lot of chemistry between the two main characters present. I...
