The Defiant Mate (Book 1)

About this book

Banished by her lover and future Alpha, Nathan, for a defensive strike against his fated mate, Jay-la fled the Blood Moon pack with a secret that would change everything: she was pregnant. For six years, she has built a quiet, independent life as a successful divorce lawyer in the human world, keeping her wolf, Kora, tightly leashed and her children hidden from the pack that once cast her aside. She has finally found peace, far from the toxic politics of shifter society.

That peace shatters when an official summons demands her return. Defying the Alpha’s order, Jay-la refuses to surrender her freedom or risk her children’s safety under the rule of a Luna who would never accept them. But Nathan is relentless. Determined to reclaim his mate and enforce pack law, he tracks her into the human realm, forcing a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the lines between duty and desire blur.

This gripping urban fantasy delivers a tense, emotional journey packed with classic shifter tropes. Through themes of found-family and complex pack dynamics, the story explores the cost of loyalty and the fierce lengths a mother will go to protect her own. Will Jay-la succumb to the pull of her fated mate, or will her defiance break the chains of the pack forever?

Reader Reviews

The Defiant Mate is a good read.

I initially found this book online but never found the whole book. I had it for several months and finally sat down to read the whole thing. Book 1 took much longer than Book 2 but that was me being into many others at the same time. Book 2 was read in two days less than 24 hours actually. I loved how Nathan continued to pursue Jay-la but finally realizing he had to give her time. Nathan realized why Jay-la was avoiding him and worked to help her learn he loved her and wouldn’t hurt her. Wish...

Incomplete

The story is good and tugged all the emotional heartstrings. My issue with this product is that it doesn't tell a whole story. The main problem introduced at the beginning of the book is not resolved by the end. The missing ending is dismissed with a \"To be continued,\" but unless they're gonna send me the next issue, I would rather not pay full price for half the story. ) 11 people found this helpful

I really like this book.

Read this book along the defiant mate 2 on Dreame I really like them a lot so when I saw the paperback versions here I had to buy them since they are very good and it is nice sometimes to have a proper hard copy rather than just a screen. I have in fact Jennifer Francis books on Dreame including ‘alpha Addison’ ‘the alpha and beta’s regret’ ‘unscentable’ and ‘her alphas orders’ and I hope these will be also be published in hard copies so I can buy them to add to my book collection. I would...

Good story but….

January 9, 2024

This was a good story but it is in dire need of editing. I don’t know what school is like where author lives, but spelling is bad, wrong words used, some poorly constructed sentences that had words being misplaced in the sentence. Book 2 was no better. In the Author’s Note at the beginning, she commends her editor, Viktor. If Viktor actually did edit, his education is no better than hers. ) 3 people found this helpful

Good book not the authors fault it’s split

November 2, 2023

I really like this author, this book, and the sequel. It’s Dreames fault it’s split into 3 books instead of one larger book. They are doing that for all the books and I honestly hate it. I would rather just buy a bigger book. ) 6 people found this helpful
