Tempting the Beast (Breeds Book 1)

by Lora Leigh

About this book

Callan Lyons is a lethal genetic experiment, a Breed forged from the DNA of a man and a lion. Living in the shadows of New Mexico, he seeks only to protect his fragile pack from the scientists who created them and refuse to let their failed project go. His solitary life of survival is shattered when Merinus Tyler, a tenacious investigative journalist, uncovers proof of his existence. Despite the warnings of her overprotective father and six interfering brothers, Merinus is determined to chase the story of a lifetime, unaware that she is walking straight into the path of a predator.

This high-stakes paranormal romance masterfully blends gritty suspense with intense, primal desire. As Callan and Merinus collide, the chemistry between them is explosive, proving that some forces of nature cannot be contained. The narrative thrives on the fated mates trope, as the boundary between man and beast blurs in the face of an irresistible, soul-deep connection.

Tempting the Beast is the ultimate page-turner for readers who crave fierce shifters, protective heroes, and a fast-paced plot that never slows down. If you are looking for a steamy, action-packed saga that redefined the shifter genre, prepare to be captivated by this addictive series opener.

Romantica At its Best - The Steamiest Novel I Have Read!

September 28, 2004

Merinus Tyler is a talented journalist, a real professional who always gets her story. That is, she gets the story when her overprotective father and six feisty, interfering brothers aren't hampering her, insisting she stay out of trouble and away from dangerous situations. But dangerous situations make excellent copy. Merinus works for the National Forum, where her oldest brother Caleb is editor-in-chief, and she is obsessed with a lead on a potential story. She had seen a photograph of a man,...

A compelling book, hard to put down!

I was addicted to the story from the first chapter. The characters are easy to like and their perspectives were clear. The action is constant and the story keeps growing, bringing in new people and deftly utilizing both flashbacks and foreshadowing to make a fuller experience but also to set up future books. I loved Callum and Marinus relationship and all the spiciness that came with it. This is my first time reading this author, but I'm looking forward to reading more of the books in this...

Barb-Tastic!

September 5, 2008

Tempting The Beast starts out with Merinus Tyler arguing with her testosterone loaded male family members that she is capable of tracking down Callan Lyons, a genetically modified male who could become the investigative story of the century. She argues that as a woman she can get Callan to talk to her. Understandably, her brothers and father are not excited by her logic. However, Merinus has been half in lust with Callan since the moment she saw his photo and can't deny this inexplicable pull...

Surprised!

This is a story about a lion shifter and his pride and the lion shifter’s mate. About 1/4 of the way it I almost DNF but I had a stern talk with me about the very real possibility that not every book I read will be good. I DNF books if they aren’t holding up their end of the bargain - the bargain being a good book for me to use my limited resource aka time to read. So I kept reading and then bam! I was hooked and the last half was addicting. And steamy! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 ) 2 people found this...

One of Lora Leigh's best books!

February 14, 2018

Great book by Lora Leigh in this series. I enjoyed it very much. Some of her stories have focussed and contained more sexual scenes, repeated over and over again, at the expenses of impressive well-thought out plots and deeper character development. In this book, she has found a more balanced approach to very erotic and wondrous sections devoted to sex between two people who begin by not knowing each other as people at all. At the best of times, this would be difficult, but each faces enormous...
