Shield of Winter (Psy-Changeling Book 13)

by Nalini Singh

About this book

The Psy-Changeling world stands on a razor’s edge as the crumbling of the Silence leaves the race vulnerable to a lethal, mind-shattering contagion. In this high-stakes paranormal romance, the future of the Psy depends on the awakening of the empaths—a fragile group once hunted to the brink of extinction. Survival is no longer guaranteed, and the cost of peace may be written in blood.

Vasic is an Arrow, a lethal assassin whose soul has been hardened by years of sanctioned violence. He walks in shadows, convinced that he is a weapon beyond redemption, incapable of feeling the warmth of the world he is sworn to protect. His mission is clear, yet his internal darkness threatens to consume him before he can secure the safety of his people.

Enter Ivy Jane, a woman who has survived the systematic destruction of her own mind. Drawn to the man of winter frost, she refuses to let him succumb to his own despair. As they navigate a landscape turning to crimson, their bond becomes a desperate, shielding force against the void. For fans of fated mates and tortured heroes, this intense, emotional journey proves that even the coldest heart can be thawed by the right touch.

Shield of Winter is a Joyfully Recommended Read

September 14, 2014

Silence has fallen, bringing hope to the Psy race…if they can survive the aftermath. The Psy’s only hope for survival lies with the empaths, a designation almost entirely obliterated when the Silence Protocol was put in place. Vasic is an Arrow to his core. He’ll protect his people until the end, though he may not have long. His conscience is weighed down by all that he has been forced to do and the implant in his arm is slowly killing him. Empath Ivy Jane breathes new life into Vasic when he’s...

I absolutely dread the day Nalini Singh stops writing (please don't ever stop). The Psy-Changeling series is epic!

Shield of Winter was one of my most anticipated books of 2014. After the extraordinary, impossible romance and jaw-dropping leaps forward for the overarching series plot in Heart of Obsidian I was dying to see what would next happen in the Psy-Changeling world. I was also wary of being disappointed. Highly anticipated books always run that risk, but I think following up a stunner like HoO is a tougher challenge. Luckily, Nalini Singh is on a hot streak and shows absolutely no signs of slowing...

Warning! This review contains minor spoilers for earlier books in the Psy-Changeling series. The world of the Psy changed forever at the conclusion of Heart of Obsidian with Kaleb Krychek putting an end to the Silence that has been the norm for decades. Now, this unique species is forced to figure out how to live with their emotions and battle the rapidly increasing infection that is oozing through the Psy Net. One way that they believe they can fight the disease is by utilizing the powers of...

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW HOW GOOD THIS SERIES IS?

December 29, 2014

Consider this - I read the 1st novel in this series the first week in December and by December 19th - I was reading this one, the 13th one in the series. (Yes folks - I'm retired - if I want to sit and read all day - I can indulge - especially if it is really, really good.) I was buying and downloading the next in the series before I even finished with the one I was reading because I DID NOT WANT TO STOP THE STORY. I have even pre-ordered the next and folks - I only do that with a VERY few...

Nalini Singh skillfully continues her Psy-Changeling series with Shield of Winter: Silence has fallen and the world is on the edge of chaos. Only the mysterious E designation, with the help of the shadowy Arrow Squad, can save the day. Book number thirteen is definitely Vasic and Ivy's story but it also moves us farther along in the series' story arc while organically weaving in previous couples and new characters. The story is romantic, exciting, and pretty much perfect, especially if you're a...
