Twenty years of leading a motley crew of supernaturals has brought Raine Baxter plenty of love and fulfillment, but it has also come with a heavy price. While she is cherished by her men and devoted to her community, the mantle of leadership has become an exhausting burden. Raine is finished with global political fires and life-or-death rescues; she is ready to trade her crown for a quiet life, cupcakes, and plenty of quality time with her partners.
To secure her retirement, Raine must locate the elusive Night Demon hiding in the shadows of Amsterdam. The Convocation demands a worthy successor, and if she can convince this powerful creature to take her place, her long-awaited happily ever after is finally within reach. However, in the chaotic world of Dark River, nothing is ever simple, and Raine is about to discover that escaping her destiny is far more dangerous than she imagined.
This final installment of the Dark River series delivers the perfect blend of paranormal romance, intense shifter politics, and high-stakes adventure. Fans of the series will adore the witty dialogue and the deep, evolving bond between Raine and her men. It is a satisfying, spicy conclusion that captures the heart of this beloved supernatural saga.

I was so freaking excited when I heard the Dark River series was going to get one more book. Grace McGinty has brilliantly come up with an amazing storyline and even better characters. I absolutely loved being back in Dark River! I missed Raine and her men so much. It’s been 20 years and Raine is tired of being a part of the Convocation for Endangered Preternatural Creatures. However, in order to leave she must find someone with more power to replace her. So Raine and her men take off in search...

I don't want to give away any spoilers so I won't go into the plot at all but this book was everything I wished it to be. I am feeling pretty depressed that this will be the last one but am also grateful we got to have book 4. I feel like I could read countless more books about these characters. I literally never get tired of reading this series. If I'm sick I read these books. If I'm feeling down I read these books. These books are like my comfort food. It's the macaroni and cheese and...

This isn’t my favorite one of this series, but still worth reading. One particular comment had me actually laughing. Out loud. There’s ok spice, though not as good as the prior books. Good story and characters, few typos, medium spice, RH/polyamorous M/F/M/M/M/…..a whole bunch of M, swords cross but she doesn’t go into much detail about it 🤨, fantasy romance. ) One person found this helpful

I was honestly a bit worried whether book four would flow well with the first three given both the time span between the author writing it, as well as the time span in the actual story. All fears are fully laid to rest. Book four feels exactly the same in tone, character behavior, world building. Our favorite fmc (Raine) is still so freaking funny, selfless, self deprecating. Her guys are still the same delicious, psychotic, obsessed group. This is hands down one of my favorite RH series of all...

Whew I got worried there for a minute, but this book is a chef’s kiss! Raine is back with all her men and as you know, trouble is never far away. I love all of the characters. The wit, snark and comebacks are just perfect. I love a good book that actually makes me laugh and snort out loud. And honestly… is X not completely perfect? My kingdom for a mercenary, vampire, man like that! His commentary makes me giggle like a teenage school girl reading my mom’s romances for the first time. ) One...
