New Moon: The Twilight Saga, Book 2

by Stephenie Meyer

About this book

Heartbreak arrives with devastating force when a birthday accident forces the Cullen family to abandon Forks, leaving Bella Swan in a hollow, agonizing void. As she grapples with the crushing weight of Edward’s departure, she descends into a dangerous depression, finding solace only in reckless, adrenaline-fueled stunts that bring him back to her as a ghostly hallucination.

The atmosphere shifts from the heady romance of the first installment to a darker, more visceral exploration of loss and self-discovery. Bella finds a fragile lifeline in Jacob Black, a childhood friend whose secret heritage introduces the pulse-pounding world of shifters to the narrative. As the ancient, volatile feud between the wolves and the vampires reignites, the stakes for Bella’s survival skyrocket.

This urban fantasy masterpiece masterfully navigates the agony of teenage longing and the lethal consequences of loving the supernatural. With its angst-filled tone and high-stakes tension, the story forces Bella to choose between the lingering memory of her lost love and the burgeoning, primal loyalty of a new protector. Perfect for those who crave emotional depth alongside paranormal danger, this installment proves that sometimes the greatest threat to a human heart is the very thing that makes it beat.

Beautiful, mesmerizing tale of true love!!!

May 27, 2013

This was my third re-reading of the novel, which is the second one in Meyer's beloved series. I read it as avidly as I did the first two times! I know there will be future re-readings, as well. I had not posted a review of the book before because so much has been said about it, in other reviews -- on Goodreads, Amazon, and countless blogs, although not everyone likes this book, (nor do they like the entire series). Still, I felt it was time for me to post my thoughts about this installment in...

angst-filled and edgy tone in this continuing dramatic saga of teen love between a vampire and a human

February 20, 2016

Twilight was a grand romance which frequently left me smiling, but New Moon takes on a bittersweet, angst-filled and edgy tone in this continuing dramatic saga of teen love between a vampire and a human. The book gets off to a rather explosive start, but rapidly turns to heavy sorrow when Edward make a fateful decision concerning Bella's safety. Following his decision, Edward is off the canvas for about the next two-thirds of the book, as is the entire Cullen family. During this time, the story...

A Darker, More Emotional Sequel That Deepens the Saga

April 26, 2026

New Moon takes a much more emotional turn, shifting from the intensity of first love to the pain of loss and self-discovery. As the second installment in The Twilight Saga, it explores what happens when that all-consuming connection is suddenly taken away. Bella’s journey is at the heart of this book, and it’s noticeably heavier in tone. The story leans into grief, loneliness, and healing, giving readers a deeper look at her character. While the pacing is slower compared to the first book, the...

Great book, great quality )

Bella Sings the Blues...

March 2, 2009

Whether you love or hate Stephanie Meyers largely depends on how you relate to her characters. That being said, New Moon offers a veritable buffet compared to Twilight. New Moon attempts to do what Twilight made no attempt to do, and that is flesh out the characters in areas of some conflict. While the characters have their irrational, selfish, anti-authoritarian ways, that doesn't mean such characters don't populate the halls of many a highschool across the country. You can't blame Stephanie...
