As a U.S. Marshal and professional executioner, Anita Blake has faced down every supernatural threat imaginable, but her latest case defies all reason. When a young girl is abducted by a clandestine cell of vampires, Anita expects a standard rescue mission. Instead, she discovers a bizarre, terrifying collective of ordinary citizens—suburban parents and teenagers—who have been forcibly turned and are now choosing death over servitude. This unsettling rebellion is just the beginning of a dangerous game that threatens to upend the delicate hierarchy of the undead.
Blending high-stakes paranormal suspense with the intense, complex dynamics of the shifter genre, this installment delivers the grit and dark allure fans crave. Anita must navigate a web of lethal politics where even the most ancient vampires fear the monsters lurking in the shadows. As she balances her duty to the law with her ever-expanding supernatural harem, the lines between predator and prey blur, forcing her to embrace her own reputation as a feared executioner.
For readers seeking a gripping paranormal romance, this narrative offers a perfect storm of mystery, shifting alliances, and relentless action. Whether you are a longtime follower of the series or a newcomer drawn to the trope of the unstoppable heroine, this chapter promises a visceral, addictive experience that keeps the tension high until the final page.

So I got into the series pretty late in the game, 2008 or 2009. I started with the first book and finished the others off pretty quickly; I even had to drive 4 hours round trip because no store in my area had one of the books and I didn't want to wait for it to come in (I wanted it NOW!!!) THe last few books before this I was starting to get get a bit, not disappointed really, but disenchanted with the Anita Blake world. Anita just kept moaning and complaining, and being a biotch to her lovers,...

In this book Anita is working again as an U.S Marshall and the Executioner with St. Louis police department and a SWAT team trying to catch a rebel group or kiss of vampires. This vampire kiss is also targeting Anita and her loved ones and she has conflict of interest between duty and protecting her \"people\". It's great to see how she and Dolph trust each other again and her bantering \"guy\" frienship with Zerbrowski. There is also a lot happeninng relationshipwise in her life. This book had...

I've read every Anita Blake book (minus the anthologies and Beauty) and, like most of you I enjoyed the first 9, and what the heck, I'll be a little generous here and say that I even enjoyed it up to 12. 13-16 were tolerable (barely) and I definitely had to take a break in reading them all. 17 (Skin Trade) was one of my favorites because of the completely new environment and people, and also because we saw a somewhat return to the old Anita. Somewhat. All the cops asking/discriminating in...

I want to start by saying that this book may not be exactly a 5 star novel. BUT compared to the past few LKH books, this one is so much better that it deserves the extra star. There is ACTUAL PLOT in this book! The case and scenario is original and not something thats been done before really in the series. Sure some part felt a little re-used but when you're 20 books in thats kind of unavoidable. There was not pages wasted explaining each man, and although most of the main men in her life are...

SPOILERS THROUGHOUT. Where to start? This is really a neutral book in the series. If you were looking for pages and pages of sex this is not the book for you. If you thought the whole of the book was going to be about these out of place vampires that is promised on the cover of the book this is not the book for you. It is mostly, again, a book of Anita trying to convince herself that she really does like sex, she really does like having sex with more than 5 guys and at least one woman, how she...
