Manolito De La Cruz is fighting a losing battle against the encroaching darkness. As a Carpathian nearing the point of no return, he is desperate to find the one soul who can anchor him to his humanity. When he catches the unmistakable scent of his fated lifemate in the heart of the South American rainforest, he realizes his salvation has arrived. But his chosen mate is no damsel in distress; she is a woman defined by her fierce independence and her dedication to protecting others.
MaryAnn Delaney, a counselor for victims of abuse, has built her life around helping women escape the clutches of aggressive, controlling men. She is the last person who would willingly surrender to a predator, yet that is exactly what she faces when she is lured into a trap set by the seductive and dangerously intense Manolito. Caught between a primal attraction and her own deep-seated distrust of possessive males, MaryAnn must decide if she can trust a man who views her as his ultimate, eternal prize.
This gripping entry in the long-running Dark series leans heavily into the fated mates trope, blending classic paranormal romance with high-stakes tension. If you crave intense, brooding heroes and an enemies-to-lovers dynamic fueled by irresistible destiny, this story delivers a dark, atmospheric journey where surrender is the only path to survival.

Manolito De La Cruz is Carpathian. He has awakened in the rain forest surrounded by vampires and apparitions. He is in grave danger and senses his lifemate is near, but he doesn't know who she is. I really enjoyed this book. I have read some of the reviews for this book and have to say that I disagree on the negative assessments of Mary Ann. I found her so much more enjoyable then some of the other earlier heroines. She didn't come across as a complete know-it-all as some of the other heroines have, nor did she constantly put herself in danger. Yes, she does love her fashion to the point of near obsession and I can't personally relate on that front, but I can relate to having certain...

What I loved most about Feehan's writing style is her being very descriptive in her choice of wording. I could just imagine being among each descriptive location. Her scenic style is just off the charts. It is very obvious that she has travelled extensively. I could just picture myself within each descriptive location. She has such an extensive and descriptive style of writing...and oh so sexually descriptive. ) One person found this helpful

I waited to buy this book because the last one A CARPATHIAN CELEBRATION was not what I expected and I didn't want to spend the money for a hardback, however Amazon has reduced the price. So I ordered it and I am glad I did, this is a very good read and introduces more supernatural beings. I must admit I hate the mages and that storyline. I was pleased to read a book with minimal mages, I am not to thrilled with the next book in the series tho. However, this one is definitely worth the time and...
