I was listening to this book on audio but it stopped about 2/3rd's of the way before the ending. I rarely pay over $3 for a book and this one was $5 and even though I'd already listened to most of it, but it was so interesting, I just had to purchase the ebook and finish the book to the end. This was much much better than I anticipated. The characters were well thought out. And I just love an Alpha male smutty, steamy story. However, it did take me awhile to put together the world building part, but it ended up being great. The female character started out strong then became weak, then strong again? This book actually made me *cry*, with my heart aching for the main character. The BDSM dynamic was intriguing as well as the expertly woven world building. I've never read a book with a power exchange portrayed so well before this one. The darkness surprised me a bit as it is a stark contrast to the other books of hers that I have read, but it was just enough and not over the top. I think the writing in this book is great. It's clear and compelling. There's definitely an audience for this kind of story, but I'm not it. Ander drugs Kat, mentally and sexually abuses her, belittles her, then intentionally abandons her when she needs him as a form of punishment.
