Accidental Bond: Damned Mercenaries, Book 1

by Mika Nix

About this book

Mac is a dragon shifter whose inner beast acts less like a guardian and more like a chaotic devil on his shoulder. With a hoard of stolen demon artifacts and a knack for finding trouble, his life is already a precarious balancing act. But when he accidentally signs on as a mercenary for a powerful demon, he spirals from bad decisions into a full-blown catastrophe. The cherry on top? He inadvertently triggers a mating bond by slipping on a ring that was never meant for him.

Enter Drax, a surprisingly sweet, hulking himbo demon who is absolutely smitten with his unexpected mate. While Mac is desperate to fulfill his contract and escape the situation unscathed, Drax is busy proving that even the most fearsome hell-dwellers can be total softies. The chemistry between this grumpy dragon and his devoted demon is electric, turning a simple job into a high-stakes game of hearts.

Blending sharp wit with steamy paranormal romance, this series starter is the perfect escape for readers who crave unique world-building and hilarious banter. If you love fated mates, forced proximity, and the irresistible charm of a golden-retriever demon, this genre-bending adventure will leave you desperate for the next installment.

Dragons and Demons Unite (in all the best possible ways!!)

April 4, 2026

Ok, I didn't really expect much from this book, but boy was I wrong. Loved all the characters, very different take on dragons and demons, but the worldbuilding was very skillful and thorough. Hope there are many, many more books to come. Poor Drax, how do you woo a human (even when his inner dragon is on your side) when your resources are out-of-date books and you've been out of touch with human society for centuries? It is a wild, crazy, sweet ride, and more than once I wanted to smack Mac and...

Sweetest Demon Ever!

January 24, 2026

Drax had to be the sweetest demon that has ever been written. That demon had it bad for Mac and would have and did anything for Mac to make him happy. I'm not sure how I missed this spin-off book but I'm so happy I found it and was introduced to this new cast of characters and their little found family in the underworld. I hope they all get their own happily ever afters. ) One person found this helpful

Absolutely Wonderful

Another wonderful piece by Mika Nix. Just by this book I can already tell this is going to be another amazing series. I already want to read the next book. The characters are amazing. An excellent storyline. And who doesn’t love Dragons, demons, wolf shifters, gargoyles, vampires and humans? You will meet all these just in the first book plus more. I’m sure there’s more to come throughout this series. Oh and before I forget, there is even a cameo appearance of a beautiful couple from The Drake...

10/10 stars

I could not put this down. I devoured it in a few hours. I rarely give 5 stars but this deserves it. The character development. The side characters. The emotions. It wasn't super heavy but it was still enough to fulfill. It's not fluff, it has substance. What I really liked is that it was a complete story in itself. You feel satisfied at the end and you are eager to get to the next characters- but its not a cliff hanger or duet. A new world was created. That's a challenge. To have a new world...

Mac & Drax

July 24, 2025

Enjoyed this story about finding your place in the world. Mac’s dragon lives pretty things but he’s not sure what attracts him to the items. Mac is kind of aimless until he meets a demon and strikes a deal out of desperation. That hasty decision leads him to Drax who knows exactly why Mac has been brought into his life. Mac now has a decision to make, he’s making friends and has a sense of belonging. Enjoyed getting to know the guys, looking forward to more from this world. ) One person found...
