Raelynn Barrett finally finds sanctuary in the arms of Jeff Birmingham, a dashing shipping magnate who offers her a life of passion and security. After the scandalous ruin of her family, she is desperate to believe in their love, finding solace in his tender devotion. Yet, shadows from the past are never far behind, and the whispers of society soon begin to poison the air around their young marriage.
As dark rumors circulate, Raelynn is forced to confront the chilling possibility that the man she adores is a dangerous criminal. This gripping enemies-to-lovers tale pushes the boundaries of trust, forcing a couple to navigate a web of deceit where every secret could be a death sentence. While the surface suggests a traditional historical romance, the underlying tension and the primal intensity between the leads tap into the same raw, dark-romance energy that fans of shifter fiction crave.
Kathleen E. Woodiwiss masterfully weaves a narrative of suspicion and betrayal that tests the very foundation of intimacy. For readers seeking a high-stakes paranormal-adjacent experience filled with intense yearning and perilous complications, this story delivers a volatile dance between devotion and doubt. Will their bond survive the lethal truths threatening to tear them apart?

Book two of the Birmingham family is about Jeff, Brandon's brother and a young woman he rescued and married. Through malicious gossip and foul deeds they work out their problems and their marriage becomes solid. At the end they discover they met in England when she was six and he twenty when his family was visiting his uncle who happen to live next door to her family. Great story, she was one of my favorite authors, RIP. ) 2 people found this helpful

First, I have to say that Kathleen Woodiwiss was not only the \"queen of romance\" who started it all, but she was a true professional and her writing shows it. Having said that, while I enjoyed this romance, it's not in the 5 star category that some of her others are or even the first in the Birmingham series (The Flame and the Flower). This second one also suffers from being a follow on to two short stories. The entire Birmingham series is: The Flame and the Flower, 1972 (a novel) \"The...

I have seen previous reviews of Kathleen Woodiwiss books since I have had my Kindle. Some of the reviews have negative, stating that the books are very trashy. I am inclined to disagree. These were written years ago, and may I say very well. I have read many books and series that are lot more vulgar but not for the time we living in. If you want to read very well written series, this is it. For all the people who gave bad reviews, apparently you did not give books a chance. ) 3 people found...

A Season Beyond a Kiss. Finding this book a little tedious to read. The German language and the Slave talk is difficult to follow and boring. i skip over a lot of that part annndddd toooo many love making encounters. I like it better when the two are at odds with one another. I can only hope it gets better as I will keep on reading and see. Fingers crossed.. ) One person found this helpful
