And So The Breaking Begins: Mindbreaker Duet, Book 1 (An Age of War and Prophecy 3)

I was forged five centuries ago to be a weapon of God.
In 1502, I was built to fight the Vatican’s holy wars. My creator burned ten commandments into my core – sacred laws of purity and duty that no amount of time or tampering could ever erase. I was designed to be a sinless protector. Then I was dug up by a weapons manufacturer that needed me to become a sinner.
They rebuilt my steel body with the anatomy of a man, hoping that lust would override my programming. They failed to control me but succeeded in cursing me. Monster Security Agency saved me from their greedy hands, granted me personhood, gave me a name and a job.
Still, I battle urges that violate my holiest laws, which is why I refuse to work with women. Until I have no choice, and I’m assigned to her.
She is a penniless heiress trying to crack a cursed vault, and I am the only shield strong enough to survive the traps. I can handle the danger. What I can’t handle is the way her scent rewires my logic circuits, the hunger clawing at my discipline. Her mere presence tests every ounce of my restraint.
My commandments scream forbidden. My body aches to claim her.

Castien was so amazing, and I loved the origin story behind his creation. Jessa story was pretty unique as well, in that most of us therapists tend to veer away from the dark triad in treatment, and she runs to it. I enjoyed the trials and action and just when I thought it was winding down....nope! More action! This series by all the authors has been phenomenal, and I hope for many more stories! )

Jessa Holloway has tried twice to enter the booby trapped tunnel under her ancestors’ castle, getting only so far before her Monster Security Agency (MSA) bodyguard fails and then they have to leave to save their lives or hers. This time, she is heading in with a Steel Seraphim by the name of Castien. One of 12, that were originally made by Leonardo Da Vinci. I found the whole world to be interesting, just like always, and this new type of “monster” as well. Their history, etc. Plus, everything...

What would strip you more bare — your deepest fears spoken aloud, or your most unacknowledged desires? That question lives at the heart of this book, and Cara Wylde literalizes it in one of its most quietly genius moments: a tunnel trap that doesn’t threaten or wound, but simply announces, out loud, what two people haven’t yet admitted to themselves or each other. Fear makes us defensive. Desire makes us naked. And nakedness, it turns out, is where this story was always headed. Caspien is a...

The storyline was good, the bodyguard interesting, lots of spice but I just couldn’t get behind no mouth. FMC was not very likable. Her very short backstory stretched as to why maybe? But not enough to root for the couple. Overall it is worth the read for sure. ) 2 people found this helpful
