Makayla gets brought into a world she never knew, surrounded by creatures unknown, and rules that are far from clear and simple. Through it all, she remains resilient. All sides are hiding information, betraying each other, and trust is a foolish act. I do not envy her position as a tool needed for everyone’s agenda. This book pulls you in fast and doesn’t really let up. It drops you straight into a dark, brutal world where nothing feels safe, and I was hooked from the start. Makayla is a strong FMC, but not in a perfect, untouchable way. She’s raw, makes hard choices, and you can feel the weight of everything she’s dealing with. This is an intriguing story with dark characters that come to life off the page. A story where characters and creatures that are often looked down upon, get their turn in the limelight. This story has a great love triangle between the lead character and her 2 heroes/villains. It ends in a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for the next book. )

This was an amazing roller coaster of a ride where I did not just audibly gasp and sit straight up at several different points. (Okay, I did do this so many times and that is what made this book great in my opinion!). I really enjoyed how the world-building occurred as you were getting to know the characters and different areas in this book. All the different creatures were fun to read about and imagine.
