About this book

NOW A COMPLETE SERIES! This series must be read in order.

Widow. Mother. Graduate student. And a first-generation Welsh American ancestral witch.

Except Gwynedd Crowther doesn’t know it. On one fantastical night, her life will change forever, setting her on a path of discovery into a secret family past and a threatening prophecy. Will she find love along the way?

Gwynedd Crowther is taking her first graduate class after thirty years in the small college town of Bearsden, Delaware while working a monotonous, part-time insurance job. Recovering from her husband’s death, she’s sleep-deprived and dealing with menopause. She feels lucky to get out of bed in the morning and put on matching shoes.

She meets Scottish professor Dr. Archibald Cockburn and her already jumpy demeanor is tested to the max. He’s younger, easy on the eyes, and amiable. Soon after, she begins to experience unusual phenomena and the weirdest hot flashes ever.

Her best friend convinces her to join the local pagan group of community members and Zillennial graduate students to expand her social circle. When the murder of a local homeless man occurs, her strange experiences go into overdrive, making her question her reality. Are these experiences real? Is the murderer a serial killer? Or something more sinister and supernatural?

Secrets of a Midlife Witch is Book One in The Bearsden Witch Series, an enthralling, character-driven romantic urban fantasy series. If you like fantasy with flawed but strong heroines, witches, fairy folklore, found family, mystery, humor, and sizzling romance, you’ll love this witchy series from author J.C. Yeamans.

This is a dynamic series, and the books should be read in order. Contains profanity and adult situations.

I'm a witch

May 4, 2024

Once again J.C.Yeamans wrote a magical story about witches, folklore and magic. This is a great book about Gwynedd who is learning to navigate life during midlife. She is starting back to college after being away for many years. She's not sleeping after finding out her husband cheated on and then died. Now she has found out not only is she a witch but so were her parents. So many secrets to discover. ) One person found this helpful

Great read

I enjoyed reading this book. My only objections are the swear words and sex descriptions. I definitely liked having a mature heroine. ) One person found this helpful

Secrets hold her by the throat

May 29, 2025

It was a great story that featured an older woman which I just loved that idea and love her too. She went from a abused shrinking violet to a woman finally coming into SOME of her power. She had no preparation for any of it and she was terrified. She had good reason to be ! Her bestie friend, is hiding a lot of secrets and she's dying to shared this with Gwynedd but she can't YET. I loved her too ! She was zany, fnny and full of life ! At times Gwynedd, thought she just might be TOO full of...

Not a lot of witch stuff

April 14, 2025

I understand the reasoning behind the book, given the name. But I would rather there have been more witch stuff. There was some, even a good ending. But, for me, there was too much sexual acts. If that is your thing, this is a good book for you. But, even though the main character, a woman of Welch background, who never knew her parents, and none she, was/is a witch. There is some good witch learning and coven info, but still not what I expected. ) 6 people found this helpful

Great first start to the series. Well written story

I really enjoyed this book. It is a good story line and although it starts a bit slow it does move along once the characters have been introduced. A middle age woman finds out she has inherent magic when she meets a professor in her Celtic studies class. Her friend talks her into attending her Pagen fellowship group and things move quickly after her magic is released.. Something wicked is happening in the little Delaware college town and people are dying. She needs to learn what her magic can...
