I found the main characters in this book interesting to follow but the main premise of magic ruling lives and familiars that go with magic a bit over the top! The initial topic is ‘breaking’ someone who might be as powerful as you and ruling by fear. Rory manages to remain ‘unbroken’ without using violence or harm.
