My review of Jeaniene Frosts Wicked All Night. Ladies and gentleman if you have not read this woman’s books get to it. Phew. Her character developement is outstanding. For example one person saying “who would dare!” And Ian responding “I would, mate”, had me all the way WAP (as the younger people would say). Not because it was a sex scene or was a sexy situation in the least. But because the character developement is so good you can actually feel how sexy Ian is when he said it! Phew, i needed...

I am pleasantly surprised. I wasn't really looking forward to this series for some reason. I think it is because I loved Mencheres' book so much that I could not stop re-reading it and I was upset that my favorite book was a stand alone when Vlad got a series and now Ian too. It was almost begrudgingly that I started the first book, and somewhere along the way, I got hooked. I STILL THINK MENCHERES DESERVES A SERIES! (Just in case Mrs. Frost scrolls through.....) Ian surprised me in this book....

As a student of rhetoric, I look for what's happening beneath the surface. There's no such thing, in my opinion, as \"just a fun story.\" Stories have themes, messages, even morals. One of the things that bothers me in Frost's books is the motif of the woman hiding information from the man to save him, which always backfires; then the man hides information from the woman to save her, and it succeeds. For a spin off, this sits right among my favorites. Ian was always unique, somehow loveable and memorable. Turns out he was so much more. And Veritas, is a ridiculously strong but fallible character. I adore them both almost as much as Cat & Bones! )

Man, Veritas and Ian just can't catch a break, can they? They defeated Dagon, but the demon left a parting gift and Ian is NOT doing well as a result. Which leads Veritas to agree to help Phanes because I'm pretty sure Veritas would have cheerfully agreed to burn down the world if it meant Ian would survive. Except Phanes isn't the paragon of virtue he presents himself as. In fact, he kind of has that tricksy vibe going and he sort of left a few things out of his request for Veritas's help....
