Astraea is a prisoner of her own fractured mind, haunted by memories that slip away like water. Trapped under the rule of a tyrannical king, her only hope for clarity lies in the Libertatem, a brutal succession of trials where five lands compete for protection against the bloodthirsty vampires that terrorize the night. As she enters this deadly competition, the stakes become a matter of life and death, forcing her to navigate a world where safety is a luxury and survival is never guaranteed.
Her path collides with Nyte, a beautiful and lethal vampire who stalks her dreams and demands her trust. Bound by a dangerous bargain, Astraea finds herself pulled into a seductive, dark romance that teeters on the edge of betrayal. As a newly turned newborn in a world of ancient shadows, she must discern whether his protection is a genuine lifeline or a trap designed to keep her tethered to his side.
For readers who crave high-stakes paranormal fantasy, this story delivers a visceral, star-crossed journey inspired by the myths of Astraea. It is a lush, atmospheric tale where the darkest nights allow for the brightest passions to ignite, perfect for fans of epic royalty dynamics and forbidden, heart-stopping cravings.

\"Once upon a time there was a war between stars. What started as a beautiful collision turned out to have the most dire consequences for the world\" I absolutely loved this first book in a new fantasy series by Chloe C. Peñaranda. This is a tale of truly star-crossed lovers, twined with a journey of stunning revelations and devastating betrayal. Like her previous series, An Heir Comes to Rise, we are given bits and pieces throughout the story, little hints that lead us towards a thrilling end....

The author has a interesting writing style that made reading the book a bit difficult. I don't enjoy having to re read sentences to understand them. This was particularly bad in the first 25% of the book. I don't know if my brain adjusted after that or if she toned it down. Another irritating writing style is to reference something and then wait several paragraphs to tell you what it is. This happened pretty often in the book. This is a longer book and the plot was kind of all over the place....

I was hooked almost immediately with this one. Within the first chapter I was already trying to piece together the characters, the world, and everything unfolding beneath the surface. I love when a book gives me something to dig into right away, and this absolutely delivered. The pacing kept me locked in, and the story kept building in a way that made it impossible to step away for long. This is exactly why I usually avoid starting unfinished series, because I hate waiting when I’m this...
