The Poison Daughter

by Sheila Masterson

About this book

Harlow Carrenwell is a lethal contradiction. As the youngest daughter of a powerful magical dynasty, she serves as a silent assassin, using a touch as toxic as her reputation to eliminate her family’s enemies. By night, however, she channels her deadly gift into vigilante justice, protecting the vulnerable from the city’s most abusive men. With a trail of dead husbands behind her, Harlow is prepared to poison her next arranged betrothed—until her kiss fails to kill him.

Henry Havenwood is not just immune to her touch; he is the man who holds her secret in his hands. Instead of exposing her, he traps her in his remote mountain fortress, forcing a marriage that is as dangerous as it is intoxicating. Now, Harlow is caught in a high-stakes game of shadows, isolated from her home and surrounded by encroaching vampire threats.

Blending the grit of a dark revenge thriller with the tension of a forced-proximity romance, this paranormal tale is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling. As Harlow navigates a web of political intrigue, she must seduce the one man she cannot kill. If you crave a dark romance where the lines between hunter and prey blur, this unforgettable journey is your next obsession.

My first 5 stars read of 2026!

March 18, 2026

I went into The Poison Daughter with really high expectations because everyone seemed to be talking about it, and somehow it still managed to surprise me. This turned out to be my first five-star read of 2026. For a standalone fantasy, it had everything I wanted in a story. Strong character development, great pacing, mystery, action-packed, perfect distribution of spice, and a plot that genuinely kept me on my toes. The overall concept was well thought through. Harlow’s power is literally...

I absolutely loved The Poison Daughter. This was a rare 5-star read for me from beginning to end. The story pulled me in immediately, and I found myself completely invested in the characters and the world they lived in. The atmosphere was dark, emotional, and beautifully written, with just the right balance of tension, mystery, and heartbreak. What really stood out to me was how emotionally connected I felt while reading. The characters felt layered and real, and I kept thinking about the story...

Wow!!

Wow! I had no idea what to expect with this book, as I jumped on the bandwagon to read it. Harlow uses her poison kiss to kill men who are abusive. She is the ideal vigilante. If you want the perfect dark fantasy romance standalone, this is your book! Harlow's family is at the top of the magic wealth food chain. Although, they don't know everything about her skills. They also use her as a pawn in their politics. I love her backbone! Secrets are favored and manipulation runs rampant the entire...

Can I give it more than 5 stars!?!?

May 17, 2026

\"She turned my scars into stars\" *sob* This book hooked me in from the beginning. It has a very unique magical system with Harlows family all having their own individual gifts blessed by the Gods. Harlow is blessed with the ability to kill with poison. She can kiss someone and kill them. So it shocks her the night she meets a man who doesn't die after she kisses him. There are so many great characters in this book. I loved her bodyguard and the relationship they have. He genuinely seems to...
