The Harlequin: An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Novel

by Laurell K. Hamilton

About this book

Anita Blake has spent years navigating the dangerous shadows of St. Louis, but her latest assignment pulls her into the heart of a mythic terror. When the Harlequin—a clandestine and lethal group of vampire enforcers—emerges from the darkness, even the oldest masters of the night tremble. These legendary executioners have come to judge, and Anita finds herself caught in a deadly political web where the rules of the supernatural world are rewritten with blood.

Blending gritty urban fantasy with intense paranormal romance, this installment raises the stakes for the series. As Anita balances her complex romantic entanglements with the immediate threat of a clandestine organization that operates above the law, she must decide who to trust when ancient secrets threaten to destroy everything she has fought to protect. It is a world where power is a currency, and the price of survival is often higher than anyone is willing to pay.

For fans who crave a robust, character-driven narrative, this story offers a deep dive into the evolving psyche of its fierce protagonist. Expect high-tension action, intricate world-building, and the provocative sexual dynamics that define the genre. This is a must-read for those who love dark, seductive mysteries.

Reader Reviews

A different take on a Great read.

February 17, 2021

I have read several reviews of this book and others, both before and after reading this and other earlier and later A. B. Books. Some I thought were not long enough, because I like a long robust novel, but when a tale is told it is done and adding pages doesn't change that. Ms. Hamilton's books are a continuation of Anita's story. We all grow and change with our experiences. I was amazed from the beginning that her novels, while indisputably full of sex, are not pornagraphic. If you don't...

Best one in years

I'm not one of those who complains about the sexual content in Hamilton's books. The erotic scenes are very much female sexual fantasy, and they don't do a whole lot for me as a male, but I've never found them gratuitous. Every sexual encounter in Hamilton's books makes a meaningful contribution to plot or character development. But that being said, when all of the character or plot development in a book occurs in the course of sex, it begins to seem a bit unbalanced. Similarly, I like to see...

A solid addition to the series

July 26, 2011

CONTAINS SPOILERS I found \"The Harlequin\" to be, as noted in the review title, a solid addition to the Anita Blake series. That's not to say that I was without complaint entirely, as noted by many reviewers the plethora of grammatical and other (lack of) editing errors did grate a bit. However, this has become ever more true of most books these days. I can't remember the last time I purchased a book that was *without* such glaring editing mistakes. Proof-readers seem to be a thing of the...

I liked this!

AHHH, good.... very good. I enjoyed this book as it filled in some of the background of this world Laurell Hamilton is building. I got only three sexy (but wished for more) interaction of Anita. It was nice however to see the cops and the police side of things again too. At least we find out why the cops have not been a big part of things during the last few books. In this book, Anita takes two new lovers and revisits a very old one. The old fellow may be kicked out of her life after this book...

Anita

In this literary rollercoaster, we've got more twists than a harlequin romance doing the vampire tango. Buckle up for a supernatural thrill ride where Anita juggles her burgeoning powers and bloodsucker bureaucracy with the sass of a supernatural sass master. )
