A well told tale that kept a good pace. The story did not lag at any point by going off into the weeds. The Devil’s bargain is made to look innocuous and reasonable, and Day does well to keep some things hidden. ) 3 people found this helpful

Out of the Shadows introduces a new and intriguing take on the vampire mythos in a contemporary setting. The character development progresses nicely through the novel and the pacing is excellent. Overall a great read and an interesting prequel to the Midnight War stories. )

Mr. Day is in perfect command of his materials. The prose is deceptively easy, but loads of nuance are in there. He gives realistic character to both humans and vampires, and he is sharp on how women can be. A splendid yarn! ) One person found this helpful

It was interesting reading this right after finishing the original Dracula for the first time. I could not put this down and finished it in a single weekend. The characters were engaging and there were many points where you are sort of rooting for the vampires to succeed and have to remind yourself, wait they’re not the “good guys.” Added some interesting perspectives to the typical vampire mythology with some chilling modern parallels when you stop to think through the implications. )
