This is such a good book, especially being a debut novel by a first-time author. This book reads like it was written by an advanced, more experienced author, which tells you a lot about the author's love of her work and talent for writing. I had the best time reading this book. It's described as a slow burn, but I think slow burn is a bit of an exaggeration. WOWWW. I'm going to start off by saying how HARD it is to write a genuinely good RH book because the author has to find a way to cram in multiple love interests without taking away from the plot. This book/series was the PERFECT slow-burn pace with a truly intriguing story. The world-building and magic system is unique, and the characters are absolutely delicious. Very well written, something I don’t see as often anymore. Plot was fresh. Mystery galore. Also, she did a great job of making each character distinct; male leads in RH books sometimes blend together and that bugs me, but that’s was absolutely not the case here. I will admit, I really struggled to get into this book because it has such a different pacing than what I am used to. But after I did get into it, I have found myself mentally slamming my head against the wall because im super invested in the characters and I want them to figure out what seems obvious to me as im reading all the different povs. If you're into slow burn, this is definitely something you'll enjoy. The yearning is the slowest buildup that it almost sneaks up on you. )
