I don't normally write reviews but I'll do it here simply because after finishing it's become one of my favorite vampire novels. There were a couple twists that were genuinely surprising but in hindsight you can easily see the writing on the walls. The chapters are generally chronological but the povs aren't, the information is also diagetic in that you learn alot of these things as the main characters do or recount where their actions begin to make way more sense It's good, it's good I want...

Read LUCY UNDYING by Kiersten White if you love Dracula, retellings, queer stories, horrific mothers, losing yourself, intertwining narratives, epistolary stories, men doing horrific things, butter chicken, cults, trauma responses, intense longing, going to therapy & histories soaked in blood. )

Holy moly… you will never know what you are diving into. this book is a gem!! i dont really enjoy so many point of view characters, but they way it was built from different timeline towards the ending is priceless. for me, yhe core heartbeat of this book is indeed the present time of Lucy Westenra, after so many centuries of harassment, of abuse, her pain and love is just so damn heavy, i remember annointed so many quotes in her present time chapters. “And then I saw her look left instead of...

Realistically this would probably be 3.5/5 stars. Maybe my expectations were too high? I'm not really sure. I found this book to be slow and honestly, I was a bit bored. I didn't truly start to get gripped by the story until around maybe 70%. The writing was beautiful and I loved the atmosphere. I struggled though with the characters. I didn't think they were incredibly developed. Lucy, I thought was done well. But the other characters I didn't feel as connected to until towards the very end....

When I first read dracula, I felt sorry for him. This book explores Lucy's story and I couldn't be happier to have picked it up. Kirsten writes the story as if she was there, and the insights to all the inner workings of Lucy's death are exposed. All in all great book, will read again. )
