I just read this book in record time. For its size and my busy schedule, getting it read in less than 4 days was an achievement, and a testament to how hard it was to put this book down. I don't need to bore fans of this series with details and descriptions of the characters, because if you've been paying attention through the first several books of the series, you already know all that. The seventh book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Lover Avenged, is the first to focus on a love affair outside the Brotherhood itself, though the character of Rehvenge has been central to almost all the other books. Rehvenge, of course, is the half symphath owner of ZeroSum, the club where the Brothers hang out, and also a major drug dealer in the town of Caldwell. This was a hard one for me. My rating is based on a comparison of this book to her last. If I compared it to her first three I'd probably only give it three stars. But J.R. Ward has obviously decided to go a different route with her writing style in these later installments so it is what it is. The romance in this book was far better than Phury's. Even though she could have devoted more time to it for sure, she still managed to create great chemistry between Rhev and Ehlena. I didn't mind her...

I have just finished reading book 7 and I am very happy to say that I enjoyed this book totally, which I can NOT say about the past 2 books in the series. The books in this series are wonderfully written, and are definetly a emotional roller coaster ride. I fell in love with the Brothers in books 1-4...But somehow, I felt like the author changed the way she wrote the books starting with book 5.
