Meet Anita Blake, a woman who walks the thin, dangerous line between the living and the dead. In the neon-lit underbelly of St. Louis, she earns her living as a professional animator and a ruthless hunter of the supernatural. While she is more than comfortable dispatching rogue creatures with a silver cross and a steady hand, her world tilts on its axis when the city’s most seductive master vampire, Jean-Claude, demands her help to solve a gruesome string of murders.
This is the definitive urban fantasy classic that launched a cultural phenomenon. Blending gritty noir with high-stakes horror, the story breathes new life into gothic vampire courts and traditional supernatural lore. You will find all the iconic staples here—from the burning touch of holy water to the chilling reality of newborns—but with a sharp, modern edge that keeps the tension relentless.
If you are craving a paranormal romance that refuses to play it safe, look no further. Anita is a heroine who is as complex as she is lethal, and her forced alliance with her own sworn enemy creates an addictive, slow-burn chemistry that will leave you breathless. Dive into a world where desire and danger are two sides of the same coin.

Not having really been interested in the horror genre before this year (with the exception of Anne Rice's vampire and witch series), I bought this book because I had read reviews and comments on various sites all raving about Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I have to say, they were right! This is a great series, and this book sets the tone for the rest of the books in the series. The character of Anita Blake is written with such a strong voice that she becomes totally believable. Her...

One of the things that I loved right off the bat about this book was that all the old vampire clichés are there (they can't go out in the sun; silver, crosses, holy water burns them; sleeping on coffins; etc) More often than not, the author's try so hard to separate their vampires from the typical stereotypes we have associated with them, that they become too much like superhero's and less like what they really are; the living dead. Personally, I found that refreshing. Also, I thought this was...

\"Guilty Pleasures\" is the first Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novel by Laurell K. Hamilton, but when you read it you will wish that it was not. What I mean by that convoluted sentence is that Anita is well into her career as an Animator when this book opens and the more you find out about her backstory the more you want to learn. One of the most important things in this story is when the master vampire Jean-Claude puts the first two marks upon Anita, which links them psychically and makes her...

“You can’t save everybody. In fact, there are days when I think you can’t save anyone. Each person has to save himself first, then you can move in and help.” You have to love the first book in a series, at least to some extent, because it’s what opens you up to the world your characters live in. Gives you that initial glimpse into how things work, into how exciting they may be. And oh boy, is Anita’s world quite something. The protagonist of this book is Anita Blake. Local zombie raiser, works...
