Echo Fort: Sins of the Zodiac, Book 2

by Caroline Peckham

About this book

The sky is burning. The Reapers are keeping secrets. Vampires roam the wastes.

And I’m headed down a path of destruction which can only end in death.

I’m a soul cast adrift on a tide of grief and lies. A clock ticking down the moments to my inevitable destruction, and all I can do is race towards it.

The nations are caught in this endless battle for supremacy and it’s hard to see myself as anything other than a pawn in the twisted games I’m helpless to control.

The Waning Lands are screaming, soaked in blood for so long that even the rivers run red with it. But those screams are whispering riddles that only some of us can hear, begging us to see the signs and listen to the meaning beneath the words we chant so obediently.

What if there is something more to this war? What if winning isn’t what actually matters? What if our magic isn’t the thing that truly divides us? My heart is hardened to the wants of the world and all who occupy it, yet still I hear them call my name. Perhaps it’s time I started listening and found out why the stars have set us this fate. Or if not the stars, then who? Something is rotting at the heart of our lands. So now I have a choice to make. Will I seek out the decay and work to destroy it? Or will I join it in its destruction of this world in vengeance for all the suffering it has offered me?

I’m starting to want things I shouldn’t want. Desire a man I should hate. Care for a warrior I should only wish to harm. The point is, I’m beginning to feel like more than just another pawn in this endless game. But if I want to be the one who rolls the dice then I’m going to have to pay the price of playing for real.

I only wanted to claim revenge for what I’d lost.

Maybe Destiny isn’t done with me yet.

Book 2 in the series will leave you cursing the stars and perhaps the authors too. You'll be left hoarse from screaming profanities and desperate for more of the morally grey Fae who lurk between the pages despite all they’ve done to your poor heart...

Echo Fort doesn’t just raise the stakes—it scorches the board and dares you to keep playing. This book is intense, emotionally feral, and jaw-clenching in the best possible way. It deepens the mythology, the trauma, and the character dynamics, while never once letting up on the tension that defines the Sins of the Zodiac series. Let’s talk about Vesper Crossborn, our Aquarian queen. Her rebellious spirit and sharp mind are on full display as she carves a space for herself in a world that wants...

4.5 stars - devastating, frustrating, but oh so good!

Echo Fort by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti 4.5 stars A note before I started Echo Fort: Never Keep was the first book I read by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. I joined a book club last year and this was the first book we read. I had no clue what I was getting into. After finishing it, I read the 9 Zodiac Academy books as well as their Age of Vampires series. I am so much more excited about Echo Fort after reading ZA. I think I have a better understanding of the world going into...

This book was a god tier book for me. Easy 6 stars. Have you ever read a book where the characters are so real and so beloved that you cry when the book is over? Welp, here I am, crying. I’m actually bonded to these people. Kaiser, Everest, Vesper, Bastian. Even Harlon and Galomp have my heart. I love this world and the story so much. It has everything you could ever want. Yearning, tension, enemies to lovers, action, trials, betrayal, friendship, magic and really just a good darn time. You...
