Bound and Unbound: A paranormal novella duology
Ali Hazelwood
by Charlaine Harris
There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with - at least voluntarily - and that's Bill. But recently he's been a little distant - in another state distant. His sinister and sexy boss Eric has an idea where to find him, and next thing Sookie knows she's off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the underworld at Club Dead. It's a dangerous little haunt where the elusive vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some Type O - but when Sookie finally finds Bill caught in an act of serious betrayal she's not sure whether to save him, or to sharpen some stakes. The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night.

I'd give CLUB DEAD a 4.5 if that were possible. First off, I really love this series. It's unique in its supernatural chills mixed with insightful social speculation, lusty romance and hoot-out-loud hilarity. (Hamilton's Anita Blake series, you say? Puh-leeze.) So I approach it as a solid 5 just for great world building and characterization, then work down from there. I won't bother with a plot summary since it's already been done but this book is less balanced than the first two in the series....

CLUB DEAD, the third installment in Charlaine Harris's well-known Sookie Stackhouse series. As with the first two in the series, CLUB DEAD is fun, quirky, and delightfully entertaining. In fact, all the books in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series are perfect summer reads; they take you away from everyday cares and woes, and immerse you in adventure, romance, and the paranormal. This time, Sookie is on her way to Jackson, Mississippi. Bill has gone missing, and Eric has sent her to the...

Originally posted on The Canon! {http://canireadeverything.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-summer-of-sookie-club-dead-by.html} Club Dead marks a big change for the Sookie Stackhouse series, one that I didn't really notice in my first reading. In the first two novels, there's a big focus on Sookie's romantic life; vampires are still there, but they hang around more like ghastly Christmas ornaments in the background instead of playing a big role. Club Dead changes all of that. Sookie's relationship with...

When Bill is kidnapped while on some secret mission for the Queen of LA, Sookie joins Alcide, the werewolf to travel to Jackson, MS to find that he's being tortured by his ex, Lorena in the garage of the King of MS. Eric and Bubba arrive, there's a club party on the night of the full moon. Hijacks ensue. A motorcycle gangster dead in a closet, A jealous shifter, beautiful clothes, and a badly beaten Sookie are lesser problems than the fact that Sookie learns that before! Lorena betrayed him, he...
