by Karina Halle

About this book

From New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes a dark and delicious Dracula retelling filled with secrets and lies, dangerous liaisons, and a forbidden, student-teacher, second chance love story with a twist.

Dahlia Abernathy has only known revenge. When her parents were killed at an early age by vampires, Dahlia spent the rest of her life under the thumb of the Witch's Guild being trained to kill them. Her latest mission sends her undercover to a prestigious music academy in Venice, Italy. Her goal? To kill Professor Valtu Aminoff, her teacher and the notorious vampire who inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula.

But getting close to a dangerous vampire like Professor Aminoff is one thing. Falling for him is another. With Dahlia's appearance disguised under a glamor spell, Valtu has no idea that the woman who has become his new dark obsession is actually the reincarnation of the woman he loved and lost twice before.

And Dahlia doesn't remember that the very man she has been sent to kill is the love of her life.

Will their love come through and transcend time once again? Or are the fated lovers destined to let history repeat itself?

Contains mature themes.

4+ stars for this Dracula retelling of second chance romance (with a twist)

October 19, 2022

When fall season rolls around, I'm all in for my books to be a little more dark and sinister and giving me something a bit different. And boy did Karina Halle bring the paranormal, dark and steamy with this Dracula retelling. Coming into Blood Orange, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew we were getting a Dracula retelling, but it was so much more than that. It's a story of love and loss, second chance romance (with a twist) and fated mates. \"I will find you again. I will find you in another...

Ok read with lots of spice

This one was ok for me. I enjoy Karina Halle's imagination, but some of the characters are sometimes a bit flat. The romance is Roman ing and the spice is spicing, but the story feels a bit forced at times. Good palate cleanser between heavier reads I think. )

Great book!

This Dracula retelling was everything I never knew I needed! Vampires and spicy romance have always been my two favorites, but its hard to find that particular combination where the vampires aren’t cheesy and the romance isn’t rushed. This book has enemies to lovers, fated mates and reincarnation. I absolutely love the reincarnation trope, again another element that I’ve struggled to find in a book. This book is a split POV between the two main characters, Dahlia and Valtu. Dahlia is a witch,...

Gothic, Obsessive, and Oh-So-Spicy

September 28, 2025

From the very first page, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to put this book down. It had everything I love in a story—dark gothic romance, soulmates, plenty of spice, and of course, Dracula himself. This modern-day retelling of Dracula completely swept me away, blending danger, passion, and obsession in a way that felt both fresh and addictive. I’ll admit I would have loved a bit more plot at times, but the spice was 🔥😮‍💨 and kept me fully hooked. Definitely check the trigger warnings before...
