With Hearts of Flame (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Dark Academia Romantasy Novel of Vampires and Dragons Featuring Stenciled Edges and Illustrated Endpapers (Bloodwing Academy, 4)
Briar Boleyn
by Invi Wright
The second in an epic romantic fantasy series from the hugely popular author of The Female series in which a young woman is forced to choose sides in the midst of a conflict that threatens to shake the alliance between the faerie and shifter kingdoms.
Abby thought things couldn’t get worse. She was wrong.
Her best friend shares a mate bond with her two sworn enemies, Mason won’t stop following her around, and Lill has been accused of treason.
Alibis aren’t adding up, memories don’t align, and Abby has no idea who to trust. The only constant? Every path leads back to the shifters.
When the faerie royal family is attacked, every finger points toward Lill and the shifters. Tensions peak, and when Mason publicly calls into question the shaky peace agreement between the faerie and shifter kingdoms, everything unravels.
Abby is forced to choose sides. Does she stand by Lill, her best friend since childhood? Or does she trust Kie and Mason, the two men who have shown her nothing but cruelty and indifference?

I just love the way this author writes. And now I have to suffer in waiting while the third book is written. )

Just like book 1 I devoured this book! But I did myself a disservice convinced this series was a duology and by the end of book 2 I learned I was WRONG!!!!! Ahhhh I want to know what happens next. Invi.. you know how to hook us! Slight spoilers in the next bit here.. TWO MATES?!?!? A false mate? Spicy scenes with exploration and passion? What??? We’ve got enemies to lovers, friends to foes, a pending war and revenge. I can’t wait for book 3. I need it now. ) 2 people found this helpful

The writing feels tentative, and references are frequently missed, and parts seem to make no sense. Abby is better in this book. In the last book, she was willfully ignorant and actively trying to get herself killed. Beyond what is believable. Maybe the author was attempting to include much needed conflict but falls flat. I'd recommend reading only if...

Story really picks up halfway through this book and what a pickup. Absolutely amazing character development, storyline and storytelling. Morally grey characters, enemies to lovers and juicy plot. Give this a try and you will not be disappointed. )
