My Husband and I Sleep in a Coffin, Vol. 1: Novel

by Wu Shui Bu Du

About this book

A cozy coffin for two becomes one recluse’s reality when he wakes up in the frigid body of a thousand-year-old corpse! Can he find his footing in this new body? Even then, can he survive the passionate doting of his handsome—and quite unhinged—coffinmate?

Wang Xiaomie, a reclusive gay virgin, wakes up to a shocking reality: he now inhabits the body of a thousand-year-old corpse, dressed in elaborate wedding attire. Even more bizarre, he finds himself sharing a coffin with Wen Fengjin, an immortal warrior who has spent centuries waiting for the return of his lost lover! Now trapped in a lavish mausoleum, undead and constantly ravenous, Wang Xiaomie's only source of sustenance is a magical peach blossom tree that keeps his heart beating. But survival isn't the only challenge--he must also avoid grave robbers and, more troubling still, conceal his growing attraction to the hot, yet utterly unhinged, immortal who will stop at nothing--even murder--to protect his beloved.

What's a danmei without a good coffin?

This book was wild. The main character, Wang Xiaomie, is Isekai’d/reincarnated into the body of a reanimated corpse. He was resurrected through the tireless efforts of his devoted lover, Wen Fengjin, who is essentially the type of character one would expect to be the final villain. He lives in an underground mausoleum, surrounded by creepy monsters of his own creation. Furthermore, throughout the story, we keep getting hints that Fengjin is hiding his true self from an oblivious Xiaomie, who...

Light hearted horror?

September 13, 2025

Though my standards may differ from others, there a certainly elements for it to be scary but I just couldn't bring myself to believe our main lead was ever in danger. The only point in the story were the horror really sunk in it wasn't doing much because it wasn't a character I cared about being hunted for sport. Light hearted... compared to other Danmei I've read. Well written, not as creepy as others I've read without horror in the tags. Maybe it'll get scarier in the second volume but I...

Slight Spoiler

I struggled with what to rate this book because I DNF-ed it due to something I thought was gross more than because of writing or art. I'm sure some people will really enjoy this book, but it is just not for me. My first issue is that I thought this was another translated novel I read in the past where the MC wakes up in a coffin -- I didn't really read the description and I really probably should have. Also there was a very, very small part in the start of the book that I just couldn't get past...
