Briar Boleyn
by Patricia Briggs
In a world where "witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people" (Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy's found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so-human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

I'm a huge fan of werewolf anything and Briggs has brought a wonderful air of expertise to the genre, you can tell that she cares and dives deep into the topic to bring such honest and intense writing to her fans. Reading this series is a ride and she keeps up with the intensity to a great degree, I often find new things I never realized about animals, wolves especially that make perfect sense when the human element is introduced. The man wolf folk character that so many grew up with is rich...

Bone Crossed is a solid installment in the Mercy Thompson series. Great story telling with no sex and minimal violence (not things I typically rate as high on my agenda so obviously the story telling is really good). This is a great low angst, low stress series that provides a nice escape from real life. In Bone Crossed the vampires, or Marsilia to be exact; have learned that Mercy killed not only the demon ridden sorcerer vampire they tasked her to; but Andre as well and that Stephan covered...

I really enjoy the Mercy series, and devoured this book in one sitting. Briggs is, as usual, an engrossing, clean voiced, thrilling and fun author. Her characters are well developed, constantly growing and changing. I feel like one of Briggs greatest talents is that she doesn't let her characters get stuck in a rut. Unlike many heroines, Mercy feels real. She isn't a Lora Croft Heroine -- the ultimate mix of awesomeness all rolled into one. She struggles. She gets in over her head and while...

I am not really into the Vampire/Werewolf/Fae fantasy type novels, because most novels are usually so eye-rolling sophomoric (think Christian Grey as a vampire or werewolf or anything non-human). But Patricia Briggs doesn’t rely on eroticism to hook a reader, she uses good old fashioned plot and characters. I read Bone Crossed immediately after I read Iron Kissed and a day and a half later, I was finished with the novel. Patricia Briggs builds her plot lines so expertly that it doesn’t feel as...
