A surprise assault by Patriot colonels Shelby, Williams, and Clarke on a Loyalist encampment, guarding crucial grain supplies, overwhelmed the initially underestimated enemy reinforcements. Mary Musgrove, a local heroine, sheltered Patriots, her life and love story—a poignant romance with a fallen soldier—a powerful counterpoint to the war's brutality.
