The Locket and the Lie (Texas After Dark Book 3)

by Robin T. Popp

About this book

A ghostly hitchhiker. A haunted house. Two cold cases demanding justice.

When John Morris stops to help a stranded woman, he doesn’t realize she’s a ghost—or that the encounter will change the course of his life forever.

Teresa Thacker has inherited her grandmother’s old B&B and is determined to restore it. The sudden reappearance of the locket her mother wore the day she vanished, paired with escalating acts of vandalism against the house, point to two mysteries that refuse to stay buried.

As John lends his hands to the repairs, he and Teresa are drawn together by more than fresh paint and repaired walls. Their growing bond is tested by restless spirits, ruthless intruders, and a past steeped in betrayal. Each clue they uncover brings them closer to the truth—and closer to danger - because someone in Las Palomas will kill to keep the truth buried.

And the spirits haunting the B&B will not rest until both stories—old and new—are finally revealed.

A haunting blend of romance, suspense, and ghostly legend, The Locket and the Lie entwines two mysteries across time, delivering a gripping tale that will keep you turning pages long into the night.

Another great book in the series.

“I really enjoyed reading The Locket and the Lie. All of the characters are thoughtfully developed, and the story progresses at a good pace. The blooming of the romance between John and Teresa felt real, not rushed, and had just the right amount of romance. The mystery of the diamond was perfect. Like the other two books in this series, I highly recommend this one! )

The mystery is solved.

This book was quite enjoyable. It was a breath of fresh air and gives the reader something to think about while reading. The people of Las Palomas see ghosts and auras. While John had never seen ghosts before he does on his way through the town. He is drawn to the ghost's daughter and falls in love. Teresa falls for him too. They are trying to find a 149 carat diamond that was stolen over 75 years ago and believed to be hidden in her B & B. She is also trying to find out what happened to her...

Great story, a quick read

I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked in the first 2 pages, an important quality in a book but often doesn't happen. The story had all the things that make a mystery book great. Suspense, thrill, romance, chills. A couple of silhouette sex scenes, can't complain about that. The characters are relatable and interesting. The author is amazing at character and object descriptions. You can almost smell the muffins she describes throughout the book. The timelines were easy to follow. Chapter...

This story is not only charming, it’s thrilling and creative. Popp kept me engaged, and I found it hard to stop reading. I love the way she weaves words in deliciously figurative ways, causing me to wave my nagging clock away to enjoy the introspective themes that danced in my head. The two main characters of The Locket and the Lies warmed their way into my heart. They both carry the baggage of traumatic experiences, but they are strong, honest, and determined, holding themselves up with all...

The Locket and the Lie

What I enjoyed most about this story was how the past and the present seamlessly blended together. A word or two from one chapter started the next, but in a different period of time. John picked up a hitchhiker one dark night and so started a story of suspense, action, and betrayal. Add in the supernatural elements and this dual mystery takes on a new direction. )
