The Castle Caper: A Cozy Mystery (A Tess and Tilly Cozy Mystery Book 14)

by Kathi Daley

About this book

Pack your bags for the misty highlands of Scotland in this delightful fourteenth installment of the Tess and Tilly series. When the new owner of the historic Faulkner Castle reports chilling occurrences—strange lights, unexplained sounds, and items vanishing into thin air—the locals dismiss it as mere ghostly mischief. However, a pragmatic Tony is hired to install a top-tier security system, and he brings Tess along for what promises to be a refreshing getaway from their usual life in White Eagle, Montana.

This cozy mystery masterfully blends the charm of small-town comfort with a spooky, atmospheric setting. As the duo navigates the cold, drafty corridors of the ancient estate, they quickly discover that the castle holds secrets far more dangerous than restless spirits. The tension shifts from supernatural pranks to a grounded, gripping investigation when Tess catches a glimpse of her own father in a local pub. This unexpected sighting turns a simple security job into a personal mission, forcing her to confront long-held questions about her family.

Perfect for fans of paranormal mysteries, this page-turner delivers a unique twist on the classic haunted house trope. You will love the shift in scenery and the deep, evolving character dynamics that make this series a must-read. Whether you are hunting for ghosts or uncovering human secrets, this Scottish escape is the perfect addition to your reading list.

New scenery and a plot that was unusual

September 6, 2022

I liked that Tess, Tony and Tillie got to leave the US and travel a bit. The location was fun and there was a bit of a twist with her Dad. These books are always great but too short. I can read the entire book in one night. Thank goodness I am still working my way through several other series by Kathi so I have more books by her to read when I am in the mood for a lighter Cozy Mystery. I feel like this series is headed in a bit different direction going forward, but reading each new entry in...

The story had mystery but not a lot of action. The characters are great. It’s time Tess get over worrying if her father cares about her. I will read the next book in the series. ) One person found this helpful

Ghostly good

March 15, 2023

What is better than an old castle in Scotland that has ghosts, dead bodies and multiple suspects? Tess and Tony go to Scotland to stay at a supposedly haunted castle so that Tony can fix the computer system that is suddenly glitchiing causing lights to go on and off and toilets to flush on their own. Or are the ghosts acting up for the new owner as stated by the paranormal investigators also staying at the castle. Just when things can't get any creepier, Tess and Tony discover not one but two...

What could possibly happen in an old castle

May 18, 2026

So this story shows that an old castle always has more going on than just one thing. And so there's more than one body. (no skeleton) But the other places in this old castle has a few special guests that are difficult to find. Strange music and small bright lights can make you feel something. Tilly the dog can see them. So solve the murder and then head home. )

Great book from a great author

February 14, 2023

This book was another great story, this time Tess and Tilly accompany Tony on a trip to Scotland. Tony has work on a computer. Along with well developed characters from the series, new characters join them in a \"haunted castle.\" The usual adventure becomes involved with mystery and Tess and her family/ friends are left to solve it. Another great read ) One person found this helpful
