Shelby Moore deserves a vacation, but the Louisiana bayou has a lethal agenda of its own. After surviving countless brushes with the afterlife, she heads into the deep, humid wilderness for a romantic getaway with the charming Brock Daltry. With her loyal, eccentric dog Fugly by her side, Shelby hopes to finally address the slow-burn chemistry that has been simmering between her and Brock for years. Unfortunately, the swamp is not a place for peace; it is a place for predators.
What begins as a quest for normalcy quickly spirals into a terrifying fight for survival. Strange ripples in the black water and shifting shadows in the trees signal that something ancient and hungry is stalking their every move. Unlike the restless spirits Shelby is used to banishing, this threat is physical, primal, and hunting them with calculated precision. As the line between the natural and supernatural blurs, the pair must navigate the treacherous terrain before they become the latest victims of the swamp.
Fans of paranormal thrillers will find themselves hooked by this gripping installment. It is a masterful blend of heart-pounding suspense and character-driven intimacy that proves even monster hunters need a break—even if they never actually get one.

So far this is my favorite book in the Shelby and Fugly series. Full of mystery, excitement, and character play that kept me engaged from beginning to end. I have always appreciated how informative these books are as well, incorporating real life paranormal theory and terminology, giving the reader not only a great story, but an education in the world of the weird as well! )

I love the Shelby and Fugly! Joni sends us on a another adventure. Her vivid descriptions bring you right into the story, helping you see, hear, smell and feel like you are walking alongside them. An interesting twist to this one is that we experience the story from the perspective of the different characters. Seeing Brock's or Montgomery's point of view added to the feeling of \"being part of the gang\". once again, Joni adds so many twists that you just don't see coming. Just when you think...

Really enjoyed this one! The swamp setting is super atmospheric and creepy in the best way—it honestly feels like a character itself. The story kept me hooked with plenty of suspense and weird, eerie moments. The characters felt real, which made the paranormal elements land even better. If you like spooky, slightly wild creature stories with a strong sense of place, this is definitely worth checking out! )
