Miranda

About this book

The summer of 1978 is meant to be a fresh start for Lawrence and Juliet. Seeking to salvage their crumbling relationship, they travel to the rugged, atmospheric Isle of Man to visit Lawrence’s father, Gil. Nestled in a secluded haven where the past is meticulously curated and obsessively relived, the island feels like a place out of time. However, the idyllic scenery quickly shifts into something far more unsettling as the couple is drawn into the shadow of a family legacy built on carefully guarded secrets.

When a young girl named Miranda mysteriously vanishes, the fragile peace of the retreat shatters. As the search intensifies, Juliet begins to realize that the island is haunted—not just by the ghosts of history, but by a chilling secret that Miranda has unearthed. Caught between the living and the spectral, the couple must confront the darkness lurking within the family home.

Blending gothic atmosphere with a haunting paranormal mystery, this story is perfect for readers who love tales of restless spirits and long-buried truths. It is a slow-burn narrative where the line between memory and reality blurs, proving that some secrets are impossible to leave behind once they have been disturbed.

Reader Reviews

Miranda is a beautifully written story about a girl who runs away when she discovers a big, family secret. Lawrence and Juliet arrive in the Isle of Man to visit his father and sort out their failing marriage. Nothing is as Lawrence expected. His father’s health is getting worse and the housekeeper’s daughter has a strangely close relationship with his father. I don’t want to post spoilers, so I won’t go any further into the story. But I loved the way the writer delves into the family...

Enjoyed this book, easy read and I have a lot of connections with the Isle of Man so that made it even more interesting, only criticism was the ending jumped on a few years but lacked any detail about the current situation and felt a bit \"thin\" )

But enjoyable anyway. Hence the 3 stars. It didn’t grip me but I enjoyed reading this... should have been marketed to a different audience )

A compelling and poignant story dealing with the consequences of long held family secrets and how they intertwine to affect the people brought together as they are revealed. Set on the Isle of Man, an old man looks back over past relationships whilst his granddaughter comes to terms with the effects of his decisions. )

A heartfelt read which has a satisfying ending and different from \"Girl Number One\" which I really loved! Thanks Jane. )
