Magpie

by Parker A. Garner

About this book

Some houses do not just haunt you; they claim you. Maggie exists in a state of hollow detachment, watching her own life from behind a veil of numbness. That distance vanishes the moment she steps inside a legendary haunted house on Halloween. She does not merely survive the night; she becomes tethered to it. Within the twisting shadows, she is transformed into Magpie, a soul bound to a dark mage who feeds on the broken.

This atmospheric ghost story weaves a dual-timeline narrative that oscillates between the suffocating illusions of the past and a present-day struggle for survival. As the mage’s influence bleeds into reality, Maggie must confront the darkness that has taken root inside her own chest. It is a haunting-romance that defies genre conventions, blending psychological thriller tension with the lyrical, aching beauty of dark fantasy.

Readers have found this journey deeply cathartic, describing it as a story that crawls into the heart and refuses to leave. If you are looking for a paranormal read that explores the shadows we carry and the terrifying cost of letting go, this puzzle of memories and magic will keep you breathless until the final, shattering page.

I received this book as an ARC and honestly it’s probably one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I just finished it and I’m crying. I feel seen. This is a beautiful story about a young woman fighting to LIVE again and as someone who can relate it truly is a fight. Thank you Parker for writing book and sharing it with us. ) One person found this helpful

Parker A. Garner has done it yet again

Parker A. Garner has done it yet again, and I'm still trying to process how deeply this book crawled inside my chest and made a home there. Because who has time for a typical haunted house story, anymore? Not me. This one is visceral. It's raw. It's not just the kind of book you devour...these pages devour you right back. Our FMC Maggie, has been drifting through life feeling like a ghost in her own body; she’s numb, disconnected, watching herself from the outside. When she strolls into the...

dark mages and a haunted house

I loved the multiple POV you get in this book. I’d say it’s like a psychological thriller mixed with dark fantasy. You’re going to get so many pieces to this beautiful puzzle that are going to fit together so perfectly at the end. I just love how the concept of this book made me evaluation my own life and how I show up for those around me. )

This book gets a 4.5 out of me! The only reason this is getting a 4.5 instead of a 4 is because I keep thinking about it over and over and the story. Let's start this review off on what I didn't like. In the begging, it's not bad but it's not great. The story keeps jumping from future to past but I liked the way the author did the chapters as it has time stamps and you know if your reading current or past (except for when it comes to later in the book, the past is italicized and present is...
