Maribel has spent decades haunting the shadowed corridors of a lonely manor in Casting Cove. As a cursed spirit tethered to the estate, her existence is quiet, predictable, and undeniably eerie. She is the ghost that locals whisper about, a figure trapped within the veil between worlds. But when a charming, unsuspecting man arrives at her doorstep, Maribel decides that being a specter does not have to be a miserable affair. She has been waiting for a reason to break the monotony, and he is the perfect target for a little supernatural mischief.
This lighthearted paranormal romance serves as a delightful, quirky retelling of the Bloody Mary legend, trading terror for unexpected sparks. It is the perfect palate cleanser for readers who crave a story that balances spooky atmosphere with genuine humor. You will find yourself laughing out loud as their unlikely connection blossoms, proving that even a centuries-old curse can lead to a modern-day spark.
With its signature blend of wit, a touch of Spanish flair, and a dash of tragedy, this novella is a standout entry in The Veil series. It is a quick, adorable, and heartfelt read that turns a classic ghost story into a charming rom-com.

Bloody Mary retelling? I am here for it! It's the first I've seen/read. Short, cute, and a little bit tragic. )

Super cute little story about a cursed ghost and a human. As with anything Cooper writes, it always has a little Spanish (which I love) and humor. This is a part of the Veil series but can be read as a standalone. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something quick, cute, a little saucy, and based on Bloody Mary lore! )

This was the first take I’ve ever read about Bloody Mary and I don’t think anyone will ever top it! Seriously, this was so good! Sure, Maribel has a tragic backstory, but it’s all fun and games until there’s a brief misunderstanding. I loved it! I know this was only a novella, but I could read pages upon pages about Hugo and Maribel. Their relationship was so interesting! )
