Gatewalker

by Brian Bjorn

About this book

Lex has never fit in. In a small town high school filled with jocks, cowboys, and beauty pageant hopefuls, she is the only Goth. Of course her father’s crazed obsession with the occult and protecting her from a whole host of delusional dangers doesn’t help. Nor do the shadowy images in Lex’s photographs — images she alone can see. Needless to say, Lex has never been on a date, never been in love, and frankly never cared to do either. But when a new boy shows up at school that all changes. Jason isn’t like the other jock-heads and fake-ups she knows. He’s kind, thoughtful — and he can see the ghostly images too. But when Jason falls into a sudden and mysterious coma Lex starts to question whether her dad’s demented notions might actually be true. Then Lex’s grandmother comes to see her — or rather her dead grandmother's ghost comes to see her — and tells Lex that Jason isn't just in a coma. His spirit has been abducted, pulled into the vast and shadowy realms of the afterlife, and Lex may be his only hope.

Unique

The story exciting and the universe Brian creates is unique. I don't know of another universe quite like this one. And I can't guess what's coming next. I've read excerpts of another book by the author and am so excited for that one to come out, too. Gatewalker is about a young girl who doesn't quite fit into her community. She struggles to find her way in the world of the spirits in search of a young man she grew fond of who may be dying in the strange beyond. )

Totally worth it!

Wonderfully written book I couldn't put it down, which ment I was reading til early morning. I loved the dance invite, and felt my heart pound through each adventurous step into the unknown. I felt her horror, lack of hope and grief. I cheered her on when she struggled on. In other words I got engrossed and loved every minute of it. The author managed to combine humor, teenage angst, suspense, and adventure into a page turning work of genius and I eagerly await the sequels. )

Great Read

I needed something to read while traveling. I had heard about this book and got it on my tablet. I was pleasantly surprised to find it most interesting. I identified with Lex right away. She has an interesting adventure into the afterlife. The author does a great job of describing the places and people. I'd only read about half of the book when I reached my destination. I wanted to know what was going to happen so I finished it the next day. )

predjudice?

Wow I want more. I am close to the Author. Brian does things with word pictures that remind me of Tolkien, or Herbert, or even \"Dark Summer\" by Iris Johansen; my personal favorites. I was slightly confused twice. Lex's power after \"escape\" and the non Jason. I believe I may have been so wrapped in the story that I read too fast for my old brain to keep up. An escape from my own mixed up world. A delightful page turner.Give me more! )

A really great story!

Lex just wanted to be left alone, a typical goth girl, in a small Texas community, But when Jason came into her life, everything changed! Follow Lex in her supernatural journey through the darkest corners of eternity, as she comes to terms with her gifts, and her love for a boy who shared the same earth-shaking talents. I really love this book. Keep them coming Brian Bjorn! )
