by Robin T. Popp
Elise Richardson returns to her family’s sprawling Texas ranch expecting to process her estranged father’s sudden death, not to step into a nightmare. What was initially ruled a tragic riding accident quickly unravels into a web of local legends and cold-blooded murder. The town of Las Palomas is no stranger to the supernatural, but when the infamous headless horseman, El Muerto, begins to haunt the Double R, the line between folklore and lethal reality vanishes.
Caught in a high-stakes investigation, Elise turns to Diego Juarez, the rugged ranch manager who has been a constant in her life since childhood. As they dig into cryptic journals and long-buried secrets, a slow-burn romance ignites against the eerie backdrop of the Texas plains. Yet, as the tension mounts, Elise finds herself questioning everything—including the man she is beginning to trust.
This gripping paranormal romance masterfully blends southern gothic suspense with a touch of dark-romance allure. It is a perfect pick for readers who crave atmospheric ghost stories where the stakes are high and the chemistry is palpable. With every chilling twist, you will be left wondering if the true danger lies in the spectral shadows or the heart of someone you love.

5⭐️ .5/5 🌶️ (Door-slightly-ajar romance) Set in a rural town in Texas, Elise returns to her hometown after her estranged father mysteriously dies. With the help from the ranch manager/her childhood best friend, Diego, Elise works to uncover the truth. This was a well-written and very enjoyable read that weaves together a paranormal mystery and a budding romance between childhood best friends. As the first novel of the Texas After Dark Series, Robin did a wonderful job with world building and...

Death at the Double R is a great read. I loved that it includes the legend of El Muerto, the headless horseman. The book has a great balance of romance, mystery, and action and a well-developed plot. The gradual progress of Diego and Elise's romance felt realistic and not rushed. I liked all of the characters and the relationships between them. ) 2 people found this helpful

I loved Robin’s new book! The characters quickly became my friends and I couldn’t wait to turn each page to see what happened next. The writing is very smooth and easy to read so it reads quickly with lots of suspense and just enough romance to keep you wanting more. I would like to see a Double R or Las Palomas series. There is enough character development to support both. ) 2 people found this helpful
