Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1)

by Karina Halle

About this book

Perry Palomino is desperate for a normal life, but that is a difficult goal when you can see the dead. While she tries to navigate the mundane struggles of her twenties, her hidden ability pulls her toward the dark, abandoned corners of the Oregon coast. Her life takes a volatile turn when she crosses paths with Dex Foray, a cocky and mysterious producer determined to exploit her supernatural gift for his webseries, Experiment in Terror.

This gripping urban fantasy pulls readers into a world where the line between reality and the paranormal is dangerously thin. As Perry and Dex venture into haunted lighthouses and decaying structures, the ghosts they encounter are terrifying, but the growing tension between the two leads is even more intense. The story masterfully balances visceral, spine-tingling scares with a smoldering, slow-burn romance that keeps you turning pages late into the night.

If you are looking for a paranormal read that delivers both high-stakes suspense and complex character dynamics, this series is a must-add to your shelf. Perry and Dex are a magnetic, complicated duo, and their journey proves that while ghosts are haunting, the secrets we keep from each other are often the most dangerous things of all.

An incredibly thrilling roller coaster ride - EIT Series rocks

July 9, 2013

I am not a huge ghost buff. That being said, I absolutely adored this series. Darkhouse was free at Amazon, so I tried it. I ended up participating on the Experiment in Terror Challenge which is probably still going on but I read the series straight through. It was A W E S O M E!!! I had read \"On Every Street\" and \"Sins and Needles\" so I knew what I reading pleasure Karina Halle can give because of that series (publishers snapped that series up for all you not-so-kind people who doubt and...

Suspenseful and spooky

November 1, 2013

I read a lot. I mean a lot. It's not normal for me not to have a book that I am currently reading. Here lately I haven't been. I hit a lag. A readers blog as you will. I would pick up one book, read a little, get bored, pick up another one and so on until I was currently reading 4 books but not really reading it. I just couldn't find that one book that made me say, \"oh my gosh! This is soo good!\" It had been a while since I found one so good that I couldn't put it down. I used to have that...

Feels like a teaser to start the series - Good, but could have been better

So many of my friends love this series. I finally got around to trying it, and while I'm not immediately enamoured of it I am intrigued enough to want to continue. Perry is a fantastic main character, and I can see the potential for the ghost story-lines. Plus I'm told that it gets better and better. Considering this is something I say about one of my favorite series...well, I'll definitely be continuing. I think your enjoyment of this book is going to ride or die on whether you like Perry....

One of my favorites series. Slow starting, but worth the ride.

What I love the most about this series, and this book in particular, are it's characters. The story is undeniably riveting, though somewhat slow paced at times as it delves into the intricate backgrounds and personalities of Perry and Dex, two amateur ghost hunters as they dive into the mystery surrounding a haunted 'darkhouse'. Perry was both irritating and endearing. I think what most attracts me to Karina Halle's book are her honest portrayals of the characters. As with The Artists Trilogy,...

Action! Adventure! Ghosts!

December 3, 2013

This was recommended to me and I am so glad I decided to pick it up. For a quick and easy read, this story was full of action, adventure, ghosts and fun. Perry is a Millenial (twenty-something) and all she wants is a life that is meaningful (in a 22 year old's head). She has a job she doesn't like (shocker there, she's 22) and a family who means well, but is overbearing. Perry has 'struggled' to this point in her life, feeling misunderstood, lashing out in her teens, turning to drugs. But, she...
