Dangerous Spirits

by Jordan L. Hawk

About this book

After the harrowing events at Reyhome Castle, Henry Strauss thought his scientific approach to the supernatural would earn him acclaim. Instead, he finds himself blacklisted by the Psychical Society, his professional reputation in ruins and his confidence shattered. Hiding his shame from his lover, the talented medium Vincent Night, Henry struggles to reconcile his rational mind with the haunting reality of his life.

Their fragile domestic bliss in Baltimore is abruptly severed when a desperate plea for help pulls them toward the remote, ominous town of Devil’s Walk. As they investigate a localized haunting, the couple discovers that the past is never truly buried. Old ties resurface, and dangerous secrets threaten to erode the trust they have spent so long building.

This gripping entry in the Spirits series is a masterclass in gay paranormal romance, perfectly blending atmospheric chills with an intimate character study. As a volatile, vengeful spirit hunts them, Henry and Vincent must confront their own internal demons before they are consumed by the darkness. If you are looking for a haunted romance that defies genre conventions and keeps your pulse racing, this spirited adventure is your next essential read.

Paranormal Romance that breaks so many molds! Highly Recommended!

March 19, 2016

I love many things about this book, and really this series as a whole. If you haven't read the first one, do that now! Firstly, I love the diversity in this book. Most obviously, the story centers around two gay men living in the late nineteenth century, when homosexuality was certainly not widely accepted. However, one of those men is a Native American medium (whose commentary on stereotypes associated with that are always entertaining), something that is very uncommon in romances that don't...

Spirited Second Adventure for Night & Strauss

April 18, 2016

The second book in Jordan L. Hawk’s Spirits series is just as involving, sexy, and, dare I say it, spirited as the first. Events move at a brisk pace, carrying the characters along and almost forcing the character growth to be “on the fly,” so to speak. There’s very little time for characters to sit lost in their own thoughts when there are both supernatural and natural dangers to be dealt with. Not that there isn’t any character introspection going on. It’s a Jordan L. Hawk book – if each half...

Great update in the series! 4.5 rounded up

I thought the plot was interesting and engaging, and I really liked the introduction of Knight's mentor, and how that affected his and Henry's relationship. I do sometimes feel the desire to smack Henry upside the head, but I think he's a very relate-able character, and I love how he always owns up to his mistakes. The side characters and the overall representation continue to be amazing and make me very happy. My one qualm is sort of a superficial one, but <spoiler>I was really hoping for at...

no saggy middle to this trilogy!

June 11, 2020

Hawk returns with his delightful mix of science and spiritualism in this queer paranormal romance series. Secrets and twists abound in the middle book of the Spirits trilogy. But there’s no sagging middle here, and just enough angst to keep me intrigued by the relationship between Henry and Vincent rather than irritated by them. Well, I was a bit irritated by Henry reticence to come clean about a particular issue. Still, the way he is continually backed into a corner so that it’s never quite...

This was an excellent second book (I hope there will be more

September 16, 2015

Another Jordan L Hawk book that went by too fast! This was an excellent second book (I hope there will be more!). The plot tangled nicely around all kinds of twists, and brought in elements of the first novel in a very intriguing way. There's some great relationship building as the paranormal research team learns some things not to do, the hard way. Vincent and Henry are very appealing heroes that you'd like to whack with a nerf bat occasionally, but their confidence in themselves and each...
