Zephyr was murdered in the middle of the night by an unknown assailant. She recognized his touch, but nothing more, he stabbed her and left her for dead. She woke up and found herself no longer surrounded by the redwoods, but by tall cliff sides that she wouldn’t climb. Zephyr knew she was dead, but her wound wasn’t a visible wound or even a scar. She knew she couldn’t make it up the cliff side, so she walked until she came across a door.
When Zephyr entered the door, she arrived in another place. She was surrounded now by tall wild grass and the door she entered had now closed behind her leaving her in another place. She went on the move again walking and this time she came across a male that was sleeping under the shade of a large oak tree.
“The doors will come and go as they please, the only thing with the doors is once you open the door you can’t go back you can only go forward. You never know where you are going and what time it’ll be or if the person you are traveling with can cross the doorway with you.” His voice was low as he got to his feet. “The people you come across are people you’ve known in the past world, that’s the common thread I’ve seen with coming across people in this other world. The strange part is, that sometimes it will feel like days, weeks, and months before you come across someone you’ve met before. The thing though with looking at you, I don’t ever remember meeting you until now. I can’t even place where we might have met or what the connection is between us.”
I watched him as he got to his feet, he stepped over to where I stood as I held his wooden guitar. He retrieved his guitar from me and swung the guitar over his shoulder using the strap to keep the guitar in place. I spoke up once more. “I don’t remember you either.”
He shrugged his shoulders, “Your choice, you can tag along with me, and we can figure out how we know each other, or you can wander around aimlessly like a duck looking for a pond.” He gave a kind smile as he moved to my right side and placed his hands into his pants pockets. “This place is always changing, there isn’t a rhyme or reason to when you get that door that lets you escape this other world. You just need to remember if you are with someone now, you might not get to go with them, and it is the same for them, they might not get to go with you. For now, though if you want some help, you might as well follow me.”
