Can’t Refuse Him: A Paranormal Second Chance MM Rom Com (Monsters & MENaces Book 1)

by B.J. Twigg

About this book

Oscar didn’t ask to be cursed. One bad breakup, one witch with a grudge, and now the janitor can’t take the trash out without… embarrassing complications.

He’s barely learned to live with it. Then, a monster crawls out of a bin.

Eddy’s been undead for decades, doomed to haunt garbage as a Grouch, a ‘Bin-Spirit’. After being beaten and left to die like discarded rubbish, he should hate everything, especially the living. But to Eddy, Oscar is different. Sweet. Lonely. Hot in a hopeless way. And Eddy can’t refuse him.

Together, a cursed janitor and a trash-monster boyfriend might just figure out how to break both their curses. But between vengeful exes, messy hauntings, and the small matter of Eddy’s whole ‘rotting spectral form,’ being together is going to be hard, dirty work.

Can love bloom in the most unlikely of dumpsters? And will they prove that even the messiest men deserve a second chance?

Unexpected and delightful

The way this story had me sobbing was unexpected. Silly premise turned heartfelt longing between two broken men. )

Interesting premise, rough execution

This book has an interesting premise, and it has the potential to be a fun, quirky book. It falls short on the execution, though. The emotional beats of the story fell flat for me since the characters were underdeveloped to the point that they felt incomplete. This book needed a lot more work and maybe another 150 or so pages to be really good, I think. It has the outline of loveable characters and a moving storyline without enough detail or finesse to make them come to life and compel the way...

this is a cute, campy, trash filled read. “you just need someone who sees you. really sees you. and sometimes, miraculously, that someone crawls out of a bin.” )
